Hi Angie,

I recently took my son to Mayo Clinic in ville. I will say that it was the best and most thorough medical experience we have ever had. Unfortunately, my son and I both have had a great deal of experience with various doctors and hospitals in the southeast US in the past few years so we had some background to make a comparison. My son's condition right now is unrelated to his cholesteatoma. The great thing about Mayo is not only their thorough training of their doctors and staff but the fact that the doctors have access to all the medical professionals at Arizonia, Jax, and Minn. I'll be interested to see how your appointment goes. Mayo Clinic

Hello, Just wanted to let you all know that I have an appointment at the Mayo Clinic in Arizona for May 15. They read my records and agreed to see me. I am nervous about going as I am in Canada and don't have a clue what to expect there. Any info would be greatly appreciated. I hear it's a great place to go. Thanks for now. Angie

Angie,

My only experience with the Mayo clinic was to discover that my

insurance would only cover 50 percent of the expenses. I almost

learned this the hard way. I made an appointment to be seen there and

was assured by the Mayo they accepted my insurance. I called my

insurance company and asked if I would be covered. Everyone said, yes,

of course. Thankfully, I called my insurance a second time to discover

the coverage would only be 50 percent.

The Mayo does have a great reputation, but as another poster stated, I

don't think they;re made advances in this field.

No , I am not familiar with that area, but I hear many good things about that facility. I pray that your wife has nothing but good results from her tests and visit.

Hey, everybody,I don't remember if I mentioned this yet, but my wife and I went toMayo Clinic in Rochester, MN today. She has doctor appointmentsstarting tomorrow morning, and we don't know how many days we will behere. Hopefully they can get to the bottom of my wife's many healthproblems.Anyway, I brought along DVD's and resistance bands to do while we'rehere, but our hotel room is so tiny that I don't know if I'll be ableto. I'm planning to take a walk around downtown Rochester in themorning instead. This is the first time I've ever been here. Any of you from this areaby chance?

oh my! i hope that everything turns out well for her, paul.

i know nothing about the city... but was thinking that you could do

some walking, jogging, stairs, playground workouts instead of being

holed up in your little room. hang in there and know that i am

thinking of your dw as she undergoes these tests and hope for some

resolutions to the issues that she has.

Thanks for thinking of us everybody. As of right now we know we will

be here until at least Friday. We may have to make another trip back

next week if we can sneak in one more appointment before the end of

this week. I'll keep you posted. Thanks for thinking of us.

Gretchen,

The Mayo Clinic gets funding from implant

manufacturers and has always told us implants do not cause health problems.

Gretchen,

I know it's hard, but you can't give up hope or else you can

practically guarantee you'll never get better. Jordan Rubin was

sick for a long time and his family kept trying different things,

and his father eventually found something that helped him get

better. Now he owns Garden of Life and is in excellent health. He

didn't have implants obviously but he was extremely sick.

I know someone named Kelley who went to Mayo Clinic a few months

ago, and the neurologist treated her respectfully and listened about

the implants. I think she was diagnosed with fine sensory

neurological damage in her legs. Her family neurologist didn't

catch it.

I was going to take my daughter to the Mayo clinic the beginning of this year.

We had an appt set because it takes a couple of months to get in, but about that

time stopped having fevers. She still has other symptoms on a monthly

basis, but no fevers. We have only had 2 fevers so far this year. I cancelled

the appt because they want to see her when she is fevering and also when she is

not. I cant remember at this time who she was supposed to see, but I know they

were unfamiliar with .

I just called the Mayo Clinic and they said that they have no idea what

is. This is crazy! I thought the Mayo Clinic was one of the best places to go

for medical treatment? Has anyone else gone to the Mayo clinic for their child?

The doctor that diagnosed my daughter is at Texas Childrens Hospital in

Houston, but he left for 2years and he went to the Mayo Clinic and he

told us that he had several patients there with . His name is

Correa, you might want to give him a call and see if he could

recommend someone at the mayo clinic for you.

You probably should say " Periodic Fevers " .

I did say Periodic Fevers. I explained the whole disorder to them. Anyway, since

then I asked my ID doctor at Children's about the Mayo Clinic. She said that

there is a Dr. there that deals with . His name is Boyce. He is at

the Rochester location. We might go and see him if things don't get better. The

Mayo Clinic doesn't have or Periodic Fevers written down in their Medical

Directory under any type of Specialist, thus when I called they were clue-less

to what I was talking about. The best way to get in is to have your regular Dr.

give you a referral.

Hi,

I just joined this group. My son has been showing symptoms for

a year. My pediatrician finally found a pediatric infectious disease

specialist who is familiar with the symptoms and has worked with

patients with in the past. From my discussion with the pedi

infect dis doc, it sounds like that specialty seems to have a fair

amount of experience with these types of syndromes. You might try to

contact such a specialist locally before going to Mayo.

Hi,

Welcome to the group. We do have a specialist locally. I have an ID doctor

(Infectious Disease) that sees my son. is quite limited on how it can be

treated though. I was just looking for other opinions. I thought the Mayo clinic

would maybe have some new information. I live quite close to the Mayo Clinic. My

suffers terribly during his fevers, thus any information I can get is

helpful.

No, she has not had her tonsils removed, I am just hoping she is outgrowing

this. She still has other symptoms every month, including mouth sores, sore

throat, rash and stomach problems, but no fever. We just keep praying they do

not come.

Hi ,

I'm so glad you are going to such a famous, cutting-edge hospital. I'm sure

they will point you in the right direction and take good care of you. Also,

make sure they give you a couple of names that they would recommend in your

area. That old doc, just " fire " him. He's not listening and you are loosing

precious quality of life....

rest well,

Jo
