Guest guest
I was at a support group meeting and one of the guys said his nerves were destroyed during the RP and he couldn't get any erection at all. He had tried Viagra, and it did nothing. The Facilitator said his only option would be an implant, and there is an inflatable one that has worked really well. I will shortly have a bilateral orchiectomy, and I got curious if one of those pills (Viagra, Levitra or Cialis) would work for me. I called Eli Lilly (Cialis) and they honestly didn't know. They said all that the pill does is increase blood flow to the penis. Not that my wife and I really care about sex anymore at our age -- but it would be interesting to know if the pill has helped anyone who has had the Orchiectomy > Hi List, > As I have posted before, I had my prostate removed last July here at City Of > Hope in Southern California. Guest guest
I really don't know the answer to your question. The Lavitra for me, after one try is no different than the viagra was, but I'm only 7 months out from surgery, so time may help there. Guest guest
Hi Jim, I treat prostate cancer patients for erectile problems following surgery, HT,and XRT. I have been prescribing Levitra since last year. It is a very similar drug to viagra and cialis, they all belong to the group of drugs called PDE5 inhibitors, which means they act by relaxing smooth muscle allowing increase in blood flow. All these drugs will not work unless you are stimulated and have a libido. One of our list members mentioned that he had had an orchidectomy, and obvioulsy that would cause a vast reduction in circulating testosterone, hence these types of drugs would probably not work in this instance. All these three drugs can work well after surgery and xrt as research has shown, and i now from treating such patients. You could also benefit by using a vacuum erection device (but not at the same time as using the drugs). In the UK, men who have had prostate treatment can get these free on prescription. The injections (caverject) or pellets (muse) can work well when you have reduce libido as it does not rely on stimulation or testosterone. The dose needs to be titrated as too much can lead to an erection lasting more than 4 hours!! (ouch) which is dangerous. With regards to Levitra, it should work equally as well as viagra. Although there are certain advantages over viagra: You can take it with food or drink (viagra doesnt work as well with this). There may be a quicker onset of action over viagra, trials reported working within 15mins, in some patients. Also, Levitra has a slightly longer half life and therefore lasts longer ( potential for sex could be upto 7 hours compared to viagra of 4hours). Although this may mean that any side effects last longer. Side effects are similar to viagra though. The other new drug, Cialis, reportedly can last up to 24 hours!! Although i have had some patients who have had headaches lasting a day or two(normally its the wife with the headaches) All three of these drugs can lower the blood pressure so should not be used with nitrates. Caution should be used if you are taking anti-hypertensives, or alphablockes for enlarged prostate problems. Avoid taking within 4 hours of these. Other than that, if you are fit enough for sex (can walk up a flight of stairs eg) then these drugs are very safe and worth trying. Often the problem is that some men give up after only a couple of attempts, you need to try at least six times, and double the dose after two attempts if starting on a low or medium dose. Hope this is helpful, Steve --- misterhistory wrote: > Hi List, > As I have posted before, I had my prostate removed > last July here at City Of > Hope in Southern California.
