Guest guest Posted June 20, 2004 Report Posted June 20, 2004 I kinda have the same proble. Except, I'm always hot! When I was in the hospital last year, my room stayed around 60 degrees becouse I was hot. Anytime a doctor or family came in, they would grab a blanket. Still to this day, I stay hot. My husband is always telling me that my temp is all messed up. I don't know why it's like that but, I've just learned to deal with it and I sneakly turn down the ac at home and work to around 68 all the time.. Ususaly at home though, I get in trouble and then have to find something really cool to wear. LeAnn > Funny thing this MS...I have trouble feeling cold or heat, this morning my hubby came down (I am sleeping downstairs, usually it is too hot upstairs) and asked me if I was OK, it was 55* down there and I was sleeping with nothing but a sheet!!! I had NO clue it was that cold!!! I turned the heat on and when it read 68 felt exactly the same as when it was 55*!!! > Anyone else have that? I can be hypothermic and have no idea I am even cold. It could even be dangerous in winter...also I have no cold/hot feeling in parts of my bod, especially my right arm, which means I have to be very careful getting the shower ready for my son, I have to use the left arm and hand and hope I am feeling it right so I dont scald or freeze the lad!!! Guest guest Posted June 21, 2004 Report Posted June 21, 2004 ROFL!!!!!!! LeAnnSharon Marsden wrote: I've heard of Holly Shill. But just her name--I don't know anything about her. Well you and I share the same opinion of Barrows! Barrows has this reputation of being wonderful and THE place to go for anything neurological......... how on earth do they keep that reputation???? When the hospital here was preparing to fly me out they gave my kids a choice between Barrows and sdale. They feel so bad that they chose Barrows now. But the kids went with the good reputation of Barrows. I understand about the anger. Like I said thinking about it raises my blood pressure. And that reminds me that I need to go take my blood pressure med! LOL. You and I should have T-SHIRTS that say: "I SURVIVED BARROWS!" ROFL hugs) SharonCharlene wrote: Sharon, That is absolutly HORRIBLE!! Wow, i can't imagine, I do have to say you look good for just going through an experience like that. My doctor was Dr. Holly Shill. She also works in the Parikinsons center. I can't remember the other one who came into visit me at 2 in the morning. My familey, nursers, and doctors at Valley said that Barrows was such a wonderful place to be and that's why they transferd me to Barrows. Dr. Shill was also the one who said I had TM upon discharge, just to find out later from my current neuro that I never had TM that it is probable ms. Anyway, I can honeslty say that I do not recc. Barrows and I would rather deal with things on my own. Anyway, it's coffee time. Talking about Barrows makes me angry and don't get my family started on them either, especialy my husband!!!...lol LeAnnSharon Marsden wrote: Charlene: Well I would NEVER go back there, either. I was there after that car wreck I had. I was flown down to Barrows from the hospital up here and my kids thought I would get the very best care there. The trauma team was wonderful I hear. I was out of it for several days. The first thing I can remember is being in the ICU. I guess the care was pretty good there too. Then after a few days they moved me to the step down from ICU and the care was horrible. I had different nurses and direct care doctors. The nurses were awful and so were the doctors. I had been in a terrible wreck and had severe closed head injuries. I also had a broken neck, broken ribs, cuts, and internal injuries. And I started having an MS attack with really horrible spasms. The nurses and the doctor was angry with me because I would only get up when I was sure I felt like I could. I told them I had to do things on my own schedule. The doctors wouldn't give me anything for the spasms and they told my kids "we aren't treating her for MS". They wouldn't talk to my neuro in sdale because he doesn't have privileges at Barrows. So I had my daughter call my old neuro, Dr. Khatter, and he called them and got my meds for me. The staff was very angry with me and they pushed me to leave two days later. I had a chest tube in and they took that out the evening before I left and put a bandage over the hole. Then the next morning they gave me a shot of morphine and discharged me. That's right! Discharged me on morphine shot with no take-home medication. No antibiotics or pain medicine. I was supposed to be on antibiotics because of the lacerations to my legs and especially because of my scalp being torn off. That morning before I left my oxygen level dropped dangerously low too. But they discharged me anyway. What doctor did you have there? I had a Dr. Shabas over my care and the resident who was on my case was Dr. Greer. Shabas was male and Greer female. We always hear how wonderful Barrows Neurological Institute is, don't we? Of course I think a big factor in them wanting me out so fast was also because they thought I didn't have insurance. There had been a mix-up in my insurance coverage but in fact I did have excellent coverage through my employer The State of Arizona! Even though I am on disability now I am still considered an employee of the state. Okay well now my blood pressure is UP! LOL hugs) Sharon Charlene wrote: Sharon, You were at Barros? How did you like it? They transferd me from Valley to Barros, where I was there for two days and just laid in a bed. I thought the nursers were great however, the doctor that I saw was horrible. She let me go home and said there was nothing she could do for me. I had to practicaly beg for a walker becouse I was still unable to walk well. Sorry to complain, but my exp. was horrible and I would never go back there if I can help it. LeAnnSharon Marsden wrote: Sounds like me too. The last time I was in the hospital was after that car wreck I had in 2002. I was so darned hot! Yes it was summer in Phoenix but you know how cool they usually keep hospitals. This was at Barrow's Neurological Institute. My daughter went out and bought a big stand-up fan that had some kind of "hurricane" setting on it. It was set to blow directly on me and I was still complaining of being hot. The staff there was certainly glad to see me go. lol Alaska is going to feel sooooo good!
