, I watched my aunt die of lung cancer and still started smoking. The

thing is, I used to smoke, quit when I was 19, for 23 years, and had alot, and I

mean alot, of stress in September, and started again. Talk about wanting to

kick ass. But I enjoy it so I am not wanting to quit. The only reason I want

to quit is so I can use the money to buy quilting fabric instead of cigarettes.

I spend appx $50 a week, that's $200 a month, on cigarettes. Wow, the fabric

that would buy. There's a thought right there. Never added it up before.

No, I don't smoke in the house so to speak. I have a fan in the bathroom window

and when I want a cigarette, I go in the bathroom and stand in front of the

window. So, my house doesn't smell and my quilts don't smell and my children

don't smell.

But, like I said, I enjoy it and am not ready to quit. Just wanted to know who

thought of it as being related to fibro.

Thanks for listening to MY babbling now!

Re: smoking

dear margaret,

i never smoked and said i would never marry a smoker. (lol, this

will teach me to shut up, my dh is a smoker). my kids don't smoke

either. i worry about my husband and lung cancer. he started smoking

when he was 29 (and if i had of been around him then i would have

kicked his ass for starting so late). he only smokes about 1 pack a

day. but to me anything is too much. my mother, auntie and uncle all

died of cancer and they smoked from an early age. i had pre cancer

cells on my cervix, even tho i never smoked. but, i also have a

better chance of living longer than they did. they all died in their

mid-50's and started getting sick in their early 40's. i had a

hysterectomy when i was 38 and i am cancer free now. im sure ill

live to be at least 60.

but, like everybody says, if you want to quit you will do it when

you are ready. lloyd is a polite smoker, he only smokes outside on

the patio and at work (he works outdoors mostly). if we go to a

casino he will smoke while he plays the machine, but if we stay at

the casino he always gets a non-smoking room b/c of me. also we eat

in the non-smoking section at all restaurants.

do you smoke in the house? maybe he is tired of that. i don't know

if second hand smoke is really a problem. my husband is just polite

around other non-smokers and also b/c i have asthma. he also is

pretty darn clean with his smoking. sometimes ppl arent (not saying

you arent) and i have some phobias about eating and smoking. but,

hopefully you will find the strength to quit or you will at least

cut down for your health.

i know you think of it as him nagging. but as i say to my husband " i

just care about you and don't want to see you sick later! " (luckily

for him cancer does not run in his family). in fact he is the only

one of 5 brothers that smoke. his little sister smokes but, she has

a different father. he blames his step father smoking all his life

on his wanting to smoke. i knew him from the time i was 17 till 23

(he is my ex husbands brother) and he never acted like he wanted to

smoke then. but who knows. some of the neices and nephews smoke, but

not all of them on his side.

on my side everybody smoked, drank and ran around (i swear the

stories i was told when i grew up) and most of them are dead now. so

i just look at that. if you have a predestination for cancer and

getting sick then its probably a good idea to stop. lloyd's family

are pretty healthy (except for my ex (his older brother) who died of

a stroke last year, never smoked in his life, go fig!) but they have

a hypertension problem that killed their father at 35. so i watch my

son (who doesnt smoke) b/c he has problems and he is 25. so do what

you think is right. but, don't be too mad at him, its pretty obvious

he just cares.

nancy in reno

ps. sorry i rambled. thats b/c i never shut up!!!

> My dh is a non-smoker, and at times a very irritating non-smoker.

He wanted me to ask all of you how many of you smoke? He wants to

know this because he wants to know if it is linked to fibro. Just

another thing he wants to find out so he can get me to quit! What a

weenie! haha. thanks for your help in this matter.
