Guest guest
Hello All We just came back from two more days in the city at the hospital with mom. For two weeks I have been carefully watching her for ill effects from all the meds. After being gone from her for two days it was somewhat shocking to see the mental state she is in now. We were sitting there talking and all of a sudden she was asking me if I was seeing all the scenes that were on the wall. A lovely wooded scene with autumn colors, trees, a stream, and oh look there do you see those vikings? On and on she went about the woods the vikings and a kitten. Then she started dosing off and making the strangest gestures with her arms and hands swiping at the air and feeling her palms as if there was something in them. Then she started rolling her eyes and talking in her " sleep " . It was unnerving. I have never seen her this way. I was assured by everyone that it is just effects of the medications. This morning just before we arrived at her room I guess she threw a hell of a fit screaming & swearing at everyone. The staff was ready to put her in restraints. Luckily a Dr calmed her and said no restraints! While we were there more Dr.'s came and she told them of some issues she was having with some of the staff. I knew she had some legitimate gripes so I chimed in my two cents so they would know it was real. I also tried to find out if they gave her any additional meds to calm her down. Luckily they hadn't. I made sure to tell the Dr to not give her any antipsychotic meds. He made a note in the chart. I hope that someone, one of us with the real experience, can tell me that her behavior is from the meds and she will go back to her pre surgery state soon. I am so afraid that these meds have advanced her symptoms and there will be no return to her " normal " . I can see that while I was gone for two days she stopped being mobile and no one was coaxing her to eat. Someone has to be there everyday to explain things over and over to Mom and to inform the staff of her quirks and deal with the loose ends that always seem to occur. I don't care how old and out of it someone is they shouldn't have to sit on a bedpan for 45 minutes, or have an accident because no one comes when Mom rings the bell. No wonder she threw a fit! She is trying to maintain a little dignity inspite of her mental & now physical handicaps. Lord give us the strength! & Mom Ginny
