Guest guest
Dear Alice, I was struck by a memory these words brought back " Wh people have difficulty receiving compliments, it's usually for one of 2 reasons. Ego thinks: " Hmm what's the secret agenda here? " I once met a very wise older woman, a nun, who I thought was wonderful. She was in charge of the men in the class for permanent deacon's. I visited her when I could and she wasn't too busy, because I liked her, and I knew she would lend her wisdom. After ray decided not to be ordained, I called her when we were in town and asked if I could come by. The first thing she said to me was " why have you come " I can't do anything for your husband anymore " I was so completely shocked I was speechless. I didn't see the relationship between the two at all.She finally said, I always thought you came to see me, so I would do what I can for your husband " Another idol fell. I was very unhappy that she could even think that is why I came to see her, when the thought was furthest from my mind. I just came because I really admired and liked her.( I then told her so)I had never even mentioned the deaconate program or anything about it, yet she had so misunderstood.( to be honest, I thought Ray didn't need any help anyway, he was doing fine). I had really enjoyed our time together,I had no secret agenda, and now she was attempting to cheapen it. Well, after a while I decided that that was probably a result of her training.( She had retired from being Mother-General for her order) I forgave her, but it hurt. I never saw her again because we moved.Still this many years later, I am still sad So I agree some people do not know how to accept love, just like complements truly meant. good luck on the surgery. I'll keep you close. much love, Toni Re: praise In a message dated 6/14/04 7:21:32 AM Pacific Daylight Time, anandk@... writes: Alice, > Atheists, I repeat, are people who have rejected the image of God > on the level beneath them.
