Guest guest Posted May 2, 2006 Report Posted May 2, 2006 Dear Donna, My most sincere condolences to you and your family. You Dad is in a better place and will still be with you as you go through this next process of life. Bless you for traveling the road to Lewyville with him. Much Peace and God Bless you, Stevie in California * * * * * * Just wanted to let everyone know that my dad won his battle with the beast at 4:20 a.m. this morning. He peacefully went to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. I received a phone call from the nursing home on Thursday evening that dad wasn't feeling well. By 1 a.m. we had him in the emergency room with a bad UTI that had made it's way to dad's blood stream. He was very sick and very weak. We found out yesterday the bacteria in the bloodstream was resistant to the antbiotic they had been using. We were faced with the decision to stop treatment or try a new antibiotic. Dad was by this time unable to swallow. He was weak and barely able to speak above a whisper. We decided to stop treatment and called in hospice. About 12 hours later, he was gone. I know I will miss him terribly but in a strange way, I am at peace and I feel a great relief that it is finally over. Dad is at peace. He told me about 8 hours before he died, " I am not getting better, it is time to quit. " I said, " there's nothing wrong with quitting. " He said, " well then, I quit! " Approximately 8 hours later, he was gone. It was all very peaceful. I was alone with dad, I had called for my sisters but they didn't make it in time. My one sister was coming down the hall, the other was 10 minutes later. I know I didn't post often but I did try to read when I could. I just want to thank all of you for sharing and for all the support you offer one another. It is important, especially when you feel like you are the only one going through this horrible thing. Take care, and my thoughts and prayers are with all of you, loved ones and caregivers alike as you travel this unbelievable journey. Donna Pearce Quote

Guest guest Posted May 2, 2006 Report Posted May 2, 2006 Donna P, I am sorry, and yet, for him and for you, I too, feel your peace. You were there, you spoke with him, and you helped him get the wish he wanted, by telling him, " there is nothing wrong in quitting. " I am so glad for you, that you could help your father this one last time. You were a blessing to him, and I hope you know that deep in your heart. I know the pain, and for that I am sorry, but I am glad you can reflect and bring up this peace when you need to. And you will need to over a period of time. But, if you need extra support just keep on being right here. Guest guest Posted May 2, 2006 Report Posted May 2, 2006 Sincere sympathy in the loss of your father. It sounds as if he was ready to go, and even tho it's hard for you and your family, it's better for him not to have to suffer any more. I was interested in the UTI that was resistant to the antibiotic, or possibly the wrong type of one. Since my husband has been in the NH, he has had on-and-off UTIs, which I suspected came from catheritization, possibly in the hospital prior to NH, or another care unit before that. Anyway, they treated him twice with the same antibiotic, then another one that was prescribed after the urine culture was made, and it was decided it would work better. Last Monday, I knew he was getting it again by the way he acted, and it was verified by urinalysis. I did find out that it was a staph infection, and again, another different antibiotic has been prescribed. Was your dad's staph? I know you will be busy the next few days, so don't worry about responding until you have the time. Thanks so much, and again, sincere sympathy in your loss. --- Donna wrote: > Just wanted to let everyone know that my dad won his > battle with the > beast at 4:20 a.m. this morning.
