Guest guest
Hello Burt, I do not mean to be abrupt, but your doctor is wrong if he thinks you may not need a BG monitor. Self testing is the only reliable way to know if our BG levels are under control. Not all doctors are aware of the great benefits that come from aggressive control of BG levels. The kind of BG control needed to avoid the health problems that come with diabetes requires regular testing to find out what food we can eat. While many resources ( including this list ) will provide use with general guidelines on what we can eat, only self testing will tell us exactly what makes our BG rise. burt struble wrote: > > > hello all!! > i wanted to give a big thanks to u all..i may not understand some of the > things u all tlak about and feel dumb by asking what u are all talking > about...but > i went to the doc today well yesterday by now and my blood sugar is down now > to 180 i know its 100 over what it should be but with everyones help u have > help me lower it by 100 in the past 2 weeks and i wanted to say thanks..i am > back on all my medince and i was giving pee strips to check my suagar > everyday now..till i can get a gulocse machine if needed but the doc says i > might not beucase of all the info i have learned from u all in the past 2 > weeks... > u all have given me my life back.. and helped me alot and i know a thanks is > not enough but thats all i can give and hold u all in my prays and thanks > and i hope that the info i am learning here i can help someone else...i am > going to a class soon and all...so please keep up the great work i want to > learn and help myslef...so i know i am on the right steps... > thank u all from the bottom of my heart and i will never forget u all in my > prays and if there is anything i can do to help someone else out please jsut > drop me a line i would love to help u too.. > please keep the great work up > thanks again > burt struble > > _______________________________________________________ > Get your free, private email at http://mail.excite.com/ > > ------------------------------------------------------------------------ > shop.theglobe.com * One Stop Shopping * Free Shipping in the U.S.! > Live Personal Shopper * Satisfaction Guaranteed * No Hassle Returns! > Accessories, Apparel, Gourmet, Jewelry, Kids, Outdoors, Sports, More! > http://www.onelist.com/ad/shoptheglobe0
Guest guest
Bert, Also where are you finding the urine test strips. They are no longer manufactured and the ones that may still be in pharmacies are way over the expiration date? It sounds like you doctor is from the dark ages. Your doctor sounds like the former that my wife had. She was running blood sugar levels in the 200s and he said that she was close to being a diabetic but it would go away. She said she had been testing and was not happy with the readings and he said testing was just a way for companies to make money and that the meters were not accurate. Well she has since gone to a different doctor and she is treating my wife and her levels are now down in the 90s with medication. Good thing that my wife had me around that is well educated in diabetes of he would have eventually killed her by not treating her properly. We want you around so please get a meter and keep a log of your numbers. Also I know what it is like to have the complications of uncontrolled diabetes as I am living with a major heart condition that I pray each day for thanks that I made it through another one. Constant pain and labored breathing are a general thing to me. At least now I keep my blood sugar levels in the ideal range of 70 - 85 but only by very tight control with insulin and many meter tests a day. I would not recommend anyone to try what I am doing without a very good doctor backing you. I have a team of 8 doctors on my health team that consult me three times a week on the computer. I forgot to mention that I get more than the usual care as I am in three long term clinical studies for both diabetes and heart problems. Bill Newman -- Rochester, NY wtnewman@... Guest guest
Burt, You are more than welcome to any help you can find here. We have all been in your shoes at some point or another and in some way or another. I am very glad your bg's (blood glucose readings) are getting better. I have only one thing to say about your doctor: If she is telling you that you don't need to monitor yourself with a glucometer, she isn't on top of diabetes. No matter how good your bg's get to be right now, they may not stay that way .. And when they do get out of whack, you have to know so you and your doctor can do something about them. Sometimes if you are sick with a bad cold or flu, that can make your bg's go up and you might need temporary help with that. sometimes excess stress in your life can make your bg's go up, if you know you can do something to deal with that also. Sometimes, if you don't monitor and know what certain foods do to you, you can get off the track and start having too many of the " old " foods without realising what it's doing to your bg's if you aren't testing. No one can control this as well as you can. Your doctor certainly cannot control it by seeing you once every 3 to 6 months. And even when bg's are running badly, you have some that look fairly good. If your doctor sees one of those then doesn't see you again for , say, 3 months (or longer) that is 3 or more months that may lead you to complications that could have been avoided. Please get yourself a monitor and start using it. Guest guest
The urine test strips are still being made. They are called Keto-diastix and they measure both glucose and ketones. I use them on my Atkins diet to make sure I am in ketosis . I don't know if there are strips still available that test only glucose. Meenie >Also where are you finding the urine test strips. Guest guest
Burt - I am so glad to hear that you are going to attend a diabetes class - that should really help you. The information they will give you can save your life - I know I really appreciated my class and the instruction that I was given there. Good to hear you are taking control!!!!!! Keep it up!!!!! Guest guest
Thank You Leanne! What an answer to prayer you are. I am calling tomorrow. I keep thinking of more questions- Has anyone tried Yoga or Tai Chi to help with breathing? Also, while reading old posts I noticed you had a dairy survey. Should we avoid dairy? And has there been any difference between vegetarians and meat eaters? Leanne Storch wrote: Hi , We can recommend two doctors from UCLA - Dr. Zisman - and Dr. ph Lynch same phone number. They are both on our Medical Advisory Board. Keep us posted. Leannedenise randel wrote: Leanne, I got the packet you sent me yesterday. Thank you so much it was very informative. I have had a rollar coaster week and somewhere in the middle when I read my offical diagnosis of advanced interstitual disease, I had a moment of elation thinking "I must have heard my doctor wrong. I don't have Pulmonary Fibrosis! Whopee!" I am now back to reality and I did find that my insurance covers a pulmonary center close by. Some one told me I should hook up with a transplant center as soon as possible. UCLA is not too far from me. Do you know anything about them ? Yahoo! Messenger with Voice. PC-to-Phone calls for ridiculously low rates. Yahoo! Mail goes everywhere you do. Get it on your phone.
