Guest guest
Hi Ron: I read your post with great interest. You have impeccable timing. I was cleaning my living room and moving some furniture and I have this piece that holds a zillion videos that I had to empty to move. One video was of my wedding to Larry. lol We have been divorced for several years and I was finally ready to watch it. We were married by a justice of the peace at the bar he worked in as he was unwilling to be married in the church which was OK by me at the time. I could spin this video as a good example of someone with AS that is oblivious to his partner but that would only be part of the story at the time. He was also high on cocaine. You see me, who was young with stars in her eyes and Larry going through the motions. I had to laugh when the justice of the piece asked Larry if he took me for his wife as you hear this thundering laughter. What you don't see is him opening up his jacket with a button that said, "I do!" lol He booked three weddings off of mine as he delivered a great service. I wrote about my experience in the early years of ASPIRES as it was sex that brought us together but was not enough to sustain us. No one knew of AS back in those days or how substance abuse really affected relationships when they were intertwined. I think folks today have the benefit of others that have walked before them, books and research that is still in its infancy on AS to possibly make better choices for a life partner. NOT that folks with AS do not make great partners, but there has to be something that is mutual to sustain the relationship. I have changed my goal from addiction studies to a psychology major as I find it fascinating. I also concur that being sexually attractive to a mate does not make them a life time partner in other areas that count the most. All of us are different. It all depends on YOU and what YOU are seeking from a relationship. Some might find the sexual chemistry number one to them. Just me.
