You can either clean it by taking out the canister and running water through

the plastic inhaler part and drying it out, or sometimes you can just take

the canister out and reinsert it without cleaning the inhaler. The

directions say you are supposed to clean it every week or every day but I

never do and have seldom had a problem. Once I did get a defective one and I

took it back to the pharmacy. I would say if it squirts out the top it is

defective.

I had my inhaler in my purse next to a partially eaten package of trail mix

and darn the inhaler wouldn't work . I pushed and pushed on it and a

sunflower seed came out! : )
