Guest guest Posted September 7, 2006 Report Posted September 7, 2006 my sharing regarding your posting: these questions. yes, they have occured over a long period of time. and many more. i have no more interest in them. i just realised that i don't have control over my life. i live with the unknown in every moment. i had my share in philosophies and bleefsystems. i was a fan of exquisitly chosen ones. and yes! i even have had materialisations. wonderful things. and yes i know there are people who make millions with books like, " you create your own reality " (how to materialize the world/life you want). but my experience is: it works s o m e t i m e s . not always. what always works is, i have no control over it. l learned that through my physics (body), and by observing my mind. can you (i) absolutely know that any statement of any religion/philosophy/teaching is true? even the most worshipped ones, like buddhism, hinduism, judaism, christianity, metaphysics, ... . is it your (my) o w n experience? as long as it isn't my own experience i say " could be " today. i am fine with not knowing. giving up the grip to all concepts feel rather fine for me. just rose's sharing r > Can you share that answer with us? Guest guest Posted September 7, 2006 Report Posted September 7, 2006 Dear AC, Life has a purpose? Is that true? I can not find any proof of that. Can we find something real and meaningful in an illusion? We can think that there is, but it is only more illusion. I have heard say that the first lie was " I " . So, I live? I work? I do? They are all really good stories, but for me, they are simply stories. They are all part of this illusion we call " our life " . All just part of the complex story we have written to avoid the Truth that we are Peace, Love and Happiness. I do not expect anyone else to believe this, for it is based upon my own experience. When I first did The Work on " I am " and found that the turn around was at least as true, if not truer " I am not " , my mind was literally blown. I also found that " I am not " was the most peaceful of the two choices. If " I am " was true then " doing " seemed to go along with that and that doing brought with it responsibilities. I can assure you that it took awhile to become comfortable with the concept that my life has no purpose, but once I did, I became much more peaceful. Now, when it appears that I have all these preferences, it seems really insane. How can " no one " have preferences? So, I inquire into these preferences of mind and I see that they are merely habits of thinking. I notice right now that I prefered to type this post rather than to take a walk? And I am aware that non of that is true. Guest guest Posted September 7, 2006 Report Posted September 7, 2006 Thanks for your reply, SD! Please allow me to ask it another way. What are the guiding principles in your life? When presented with choices how do you make decision on which one to choose? What guides and dictates your " goals " ? What guides and dictates your " objectives " ? What guides and dictates your long and short term planning? When faced with situations that are not 'pleasurable' and comforting to the body... what makes you bear them... for what end? Regards, Arvind. > > > > What is the purpose of my life? > > > > Why do I live? > > > > Why do I " work " ? > > > > Why do I " do " ? > > > > > > > > These are the questions I have asked myself many times. > > > > > > I can't say I have found any " real " answers > > because none of my answers have stayed. > > > > > > > > Why do I " work " ... > > > > Why do I " do " ... > > > > > > when paece, happiness, inner love is not > > dependent on things outside, on the results > > of what I do or what I accomplish... > > > > > > Why do I " do " ... > > when all that is really important to me is > > paece... > > > > and, when peace is not dependent on anything that > > I do? > > > > > > > > > > Do these questions occur to you too? > > > > Have they EVER occured to you? > > > > Have you found any real answer to them? > > > > > > Can you share that answer with us? > > > Quote
Guest guest Posted September 7, 2006 Report Posted September 7, 2006 Core Belief: My life should have a purpose. Is it true? Yes. Can I absolutely know that it’s true? No. How do I react when I believe the thought “My life should have a purpose?” I experience fear because I don’t know what my purpose is and I think I should know. I try to figure it out, and I experience a great deal of stress and anxiety. It feels like I am letting God and the world down. I am wasting not only everyone else’s time, but my own life as well. I believe that what I actually do is small and that I need to be important. I need to do something big. I feel like some greater outcome depends on me. This is stressful and confusing. I make plans, actually many plans, that I think will serve this unknown purpose. My plan rarely matches what actually happens. I feel urgency when I believe this thought. I feel great internal pressure to complete a worthwhile purpose before I die. Since I can’t know when that will be, I have to get this purpose (that I have no clue about) accomplished quickly. I experience a sense of stupidity and failure. This leaves me depressed. Do I see a reason to drop this story? Yes. When I believe this story, I envy some people. I think they have found their purpose and are clear about it. I imitate these people and I try to impress them. I even pretend to take on their purpose as my purpose. I come at them in a very phony way, and actually keep myself very separate from them. Do I see one peaceful reason to keep this story? No. They are all stressful. When I believe the story, I am very hard on myself. I discount all the parts of my life that I think are not serving what I think my purpose should be. I am rarely available to enjoy life. I believe that there are right and wrong ways for me to live out this phony identification as “someone with a purpose.” I make a lot of rules for myself that match my definition of “someone with a purpose.” I think every thought, feeling and action has to serve my purpose, e.g. What I wear, what I eat, who I talk to, what I read, etc. I limit my experience of life and then wonder why I am left wanting. All my reasons are stressful. Who would I be without the thought that my life should have a purpose? I could really experience a lot of joy in my life. When I imagine myself without this thought, I feel self-accepting, as though that were my purpose. I am peaceful, doing the thing in front of me, no goals, no decisions, not trying to impress anyone or live up to any imagined expectations. I see myself as energized, fearless, loving, and purpose-full. Without attachment to this thought, I am on permanent mental vacation — living my purpose, doing what I know to do, each and every moment. The turnaround. My life should not have a purpose. Or my life as it is already lived is the purpose. That’s not only equal and ordinary, but is a lot less stressful. Could peace be my purpose? It seems as true. One answer feels as intelligent as the other, and the turnaround feels less stressful to live with. -- Re: What is the purpose of your life? Dear AC, Life has a purpose? Is that true? Is it fair interpret it as you do what " feels " " right " and not how your mind says it " needs " it to be? And, what does your heart say about your long term purpose or about setting up log term goals and plans? Thanks a lot for listening! And, thanks a lot for thinking and replying [if you do]! Love, ac. PS: To give it a context, finding a real lasting 'purpose' has perahps been one of the real challenges to me since I had a shift and understood that 'who I thought I was'... was just a 'story' that I told myself. > > Have a beautiful day > > > " If I'm fearful, it's because I believe what I think. Guest guest Posted September 10, 2006 Report Posted September 10, 2006 ---WOW tami did the work.. Im impressed. I think that question on having a purpose is also in katies first book -loving what is and and she agrees that its less stressful to have no purpose.. but then she says some people feel less stress believing they have a purpose.. i think.. or was that from somewhere else.. I would look it up but im too lazy.. anyway there is no right or wrong.. IF i remember correctly katie feels we have no purpose is best in her view.. I like when you wrote my life as it is --is my purpose.. I like to think that .. about my own life. love, roslyn. n In Loving-what-is , Tami wrote: > > Core Belief: My life should have a purpose. > > Is it true? Guest guest Posted September 13, 2006 Report Posted September 13, 2006 if you fail to plan you plan to fail.. ive planned on things and they have still failed.. Like i planned on having a great family vacation one year.. no fights great food.. etc.. I ended up the one who started the fights.. My husband wanted to eat at a subway in san franisco.. you dont eat at a subway.. twice.!!! its cheap.. anyway , i had a pretty miserable time. That was many years ago..I was angry and then in apathy and sad for being angry and spoiling the vacation. This year i let him and my 2 adult sons take a vacation alone .. They didnt have any set plans.. they ended up getting tickets to a game at yankee stadium which are normally 60 a piece for 20. And got to see a free jazz concert.. in ny city.. they had a great time. no planning.. well my husband did research the jazz locations before he left.. i will say that. I dont know if that really a good example but i know money is a difficult area to plan because it comes and goes.. so easy. oh well.. love, roslyn > > > > > > > > theres a katie quote if you want suffering , get a plan.. > > > So, maybe, the real truth is that > > > it is not that I have no plans > > > but, maybe, there are some things > > > [like paying bills] that I don't consider > > > to be *important* enough. > > > ac. > > > > I agree with the saying.. > > > > 'Life is what happens when I make other plans.' > > > I like that axiom too. > > I also like these: > > ---- If you fail to plan; you plan to fail! ---- > > ---- If you don't have a plan for yourself; > someone else does have a plan for you and > it may not be what you really want! ----- > > > > > > > > It's probably just another story I'm running.
