Guest guest
Many folks have adrenal issues that can only be fixed with Hydrocortisone and thyroid medicine doesn't really start to work until this is accomplished. T-3 only is usually taken to wash out reverse T-3 so that a more balanced therapy can be started. Have you asked your doctor about the reasons for your protocol? Marti t3 only and hydrocortosone questions I think I'm confused. I thought I understood the reasoning behind taking only t3, but now that I am taking it alone, I'm not so sure. I've gotten the vibe from other posts that many of you have gone the t3 route and gone back to a t3/t4 combo. I had been taking 120mg componded t3/t4 since the armour recall, etc (after one more lost $ynthroid year) I had Graves in '82 (12 y/o)and thyroid free (rai) since '85 (+/- time for it to die off). Current tests are (fasting and no med since previous morning): TSH, 3G: .12 miu/l (.4-4.5) t4, free: .9 ng/dl (.8-1.8) t3, reverse: 19 ng/dl (11-32) t3, free: 2.6 pg/ml (2.3-4.2) Also, along w/ the t3 only, i was prescribed hydrocortisone and DHEA. I'm not so thrilled about the hydrocortisone idea. Is it really necessary? (i know, i know---in ya'lls opinion) When I inquired about saliva testing, I was told that these AM blood tests were accurate enough. cortisol total: 11.4 mcg/dl (4.6-20.6) cortosol free: .28 mcg/dl (.07-.93) dhea sulfate: 147 mcg/dl (25-220) Any advice, wisdom, pats on the back, etc will be appreciated!! As you can tell from the dates above a good chunk of my life has been dedicated to this thyroid " fun " . At this point, I'm a little scared b/c so much time has been spent and w/ this newest dr, i am kind of starting back at yet another square one. Funny after 30 years, I thought i knew so much, but in reality I still know so little about thyroid. Thanks! Jayne
