Guest guest Posted June 1, 2006 Report Posted June 1, 2006 Hi Guy, Are you new here? Welcome to you in Canada. My pulmonary doctor wrote a prescription and I gave it to my oxygen provider. They got it for me and insurance paid all of it. It is considered durable home medical equipment so probably Medicare would pay also. You can buy them at medical supply stores or online. Just type Flutter Valve into your Google engine and there will be many sites to go to. It is a great tool. Make sure you get the video that shows you how to use it. I use it all the time. I would really like to get the Acapella Choice. I have read that it takes less energy to use. Also pay attention to cleaning instructions. Let me know if you need an address to order one. Guest guest Posted June 1, 2006 Report Posted June 1, 2006 Thanks Joyce! I am going back to the lung rehab center tomorrow. I will ask my doctor if he can prescribe me the Acapella Choice flutter valve. I'm not new to this site but I don't write that often. I read most of the posted e-mails. Your sign off included PF 1997, does that mean you were diagnosed in 1997? Mine was 2003. Thanks again and take care all you beautiful people. Guy > > > > Hi all, my name is Guy Legault. Guest guest Posted June 1, 2006 Report Posted June 1, 2006 Guy, Yes, my biopsy was in 1997. I was very very sick. The docs determined that the fibrosis was caused by Lupus or 'connective tissue disease'. They have been agressive in the treatment of that and have stalled the fibrosis. I have been very blessed and my pulmonary doc seems stunned at times. I developed Bronchiectasis a couple of years ago and things turned ugly. It is really hard to keep the mucus out of my lungs now. I have moved into end stage. Let me know what they say about the flutter valve. I talk to people online which have switched to the Acapella and say that it takes a lot less effort. Hope you can get what you need! The respiratory dept at the hospital said the cost was over $400. Online it runs about $80. Probably has a manufacture cost of $3.00! Unbelievable. The one I have has a small steel marble in it and not long after I got it, while I was cleaning it, the steel ball dissapeared. One of my grandkids had taken it thinking it was a grand wonderful marble to play with!!! Aaaargh! Take care. *p.s. Leanne asked that we all place our date of diagnosis by our name. Guest guest Posted June 1, 2006 Report Posted June 1, 2006 Hi joyce, good story about the marble and your gandkids.LOL. You were asking if I was a new member to the group. Look at message number 83, and yes I will let you know tomorrow about the flutter valve after I come back from the rehab centre. Guest guest Posted June 2, 2006 Report Posted June 2, 2006 Hi Joyce, I was at the rehab today, I ask about the flutter valve, I was told that if I bring up mucus like I do I don't need the flutter valve. It's for people that can't bring it up, so much for that. My 02 is at 96 wich is very good. I lost 10 pounds since last October that is not so good, she also told me that I was half the man she saw last October as far as my physical and spirit was concerned. She also told me that I look depresse and should seek help, I felt like crying, and told her that I was not raise to feel or talk about my emotion . Sorry for venting like this, it's not natural for me and I should be a man and take it. Take care. Guy > > > > > > > > > > Hi all, my name is Guy Legault. Guest guest Posted June 2, 2006 Report Posted June 2, 2006 Guy, I get teary at the stupidest times. When I got to the ENT visit today ,they asked me to fill out one of those 2 hour forms. I had filled one out and submitted to them online and of course they didn't have it. I got so upset and had to bite my lip to keep from crying. I think our bodies are just worn out from trying to fight this THING. It takes it's toll on our emotional self, too. For me, I feel like my dignity has been ripped away. I want to be strong, like I always was. I know it is even harder on guys. My husband always gets so hateful when he is sick. I think we just feel 'out of control'. The Flutter Valve only makes it easier to get the gunk out. It keeps me from struggling until I am so exhausted. Is your 02 96 without oxygen??? What are you doing in rehab? Walking? Take care of you! Joyce PF 1997> > > > > >> > > > > > Hi all, my name is Guy Legault. Guest guest Posted June 2, 2006 Report Posted June 2, 2006 Joyce, I do understand completely. When I went to a new Dr. The girl went to take my BP and when she pumped that thing up. I cried like a baby, scared her to death. Bless my sweet hubby he explained that my body was extra sensitive at the time. The Dr cane in sat down ask the questions and filled out the 3 pages.. Loved that. You are the strongest person I know on this site. God has blessed each and every one of us with your life and words of wisdom. I told you, you are my hero. Guest guest Posted June 2, 2006 Report Posted June 2, 2006 Hi Guy, Real men do cry when the world falls apart if you don't then your are not human. Deep inside we all are weak at times. Just remember, you must know pain to truly know joy.So cry for the man you were, and rejoice in the man you now have become. This monster can change us from stronge individuals to crying babies in the blink of an eye. Then we turn around and become strong again. Let us in the group help shoulder your pain and we will also rejoice in your triumps. Guest guest Posted June 2, 2006 Report Posted June 2, 2006 Joyce, your soooo right. There is one thing about this group, we understand, what is pain, not only physical but emotional. I am glad to be able to write openly with a group that know's our felling. At the rehab, I do walking on treadmill. My 02 is witout oxygen. I was told that it is common that people with IPF still have good oxygen by the nurse at the rehab. Are you on oxygen? Have you been to a rehab centre? If not you should try and get into one, it is a good place to go to, for me it was. Be good to yourself. Guy PS: Excuse my english I am a french Canadian. > > > > > > > > > > > > > > Hi all, my name is Guy Legault. Guest guest Posted June 3, 2006 Report Posted June 3, 2006 Guy, I went to rehab about 8 months after biopsy. I was still on 02. They helped me to learn to breathe and keep my saturation up without it. I was off for about 2 years, then got really sick with infection/pneumonia and more new growth (all due to a baaaaad doc). They put me on oxygen then at 2L. That was about 6 years or so ago. I have been on it ever since. I am on 4 to 5L, now. I loved rehab. I did so well. But, I should have stayed in an active program because as time went on, I stopped walking and quit doing excersizes. Lazy! I am so mad at myself, now. Feel so weak. It is a good thing. Much easier to do when you have the kind of support that you get in the program. Self motivation is not easy when you feel lousy. Guest guest Posted June 3, 2006 Report Posted June 3, 2006 Guy, I haven't been on the board very long but one thing I know is we have a common denominator....HONESTY. Vent all you need and say all you need and ask for what you need. It will be forth coming. In my opinion, you are a man who is taking it. We all need help along the way. Hugs to you.
