Guest guest
- I agree exercise is important. But when walking a couple hundred yards puts you in so much pain that you cannot function for a few days - something's gotta give. After all the treatments and therapy I've had, I am still unable to stand upright. This put strain on my upper back - and I then herniated a disk there - which hurts now all the time in addition to my lower back problems. My upper back cannot be fixed surgically since it requires a thoracotomy (opening up the chest complete with rib snippers) - so I will have to suffer with this pain probably the rest of my life - despite the fact that my disk is pressing on my spinal cord. Now I'm having severe neck problems because of my increasingly poor posture and next it will probably be a neck disk that goes (if it hasn't already). My posture continues to get worse because I'm trying to avoid pain - and in doing so - I'm waking out the alignment of my spine. I still try to get out and about - but most days just walking the length of a supermarket is about all I can take. If you add to that the distance in the parking lot - I'm in absolute agony by the time I get home. So now what do I do? I say " no way - I cannot walk that far " . And so I don't walk at all. I honestly think that if I had the handicapped parking, I'd probably go out more and walk more but in littler amounts. Again, I'm hoping the surgery corrects the pain in my spine and I can get back to a regular exercise regimen. Exercise is very important for controlling fibro - no doubt about it. But when walking 100 yards leaves you in agony - its not helping, its hurting. > > > Man my dox REFUSE to give me that blue placard. > > You'd think I was > > asking them to do something illegal. Guest guest
I didn't mean that you shouldn't get one. I was just saying I don't think that I can get one. And that none of us should be worried about what other people think. If anyone of us didn't need it, we wouldn't get it. But as you said, when it hurts that much we DO need it. And if healthy " whistleblowers " don't like that, than tough. Cause it isn't their desicion. It is between us and our doctors. You just said it better than I did;-) --- wrote: > - I agree exercise is important. Guest guest
Hi again everyone, I've finally caught up with all the e-mail I missed during our computer crashes. Wow... I'm beat just from reading it all... hehehehe. I want to reply to this one, especially. I may be 46 today, but I applied for my handicapped card for the truck over 10 years ago. The first time I asked my doctor, she didn't think it was needed. I got the old... the exercise will do you good speech. A month later, I went to the licensing place and asked to the application. I then took it to my doctor, handed it to her and told... I need you to fill this out for me because if you don't, I'll be back asking for a lot more pain medication and I'll need more time off work because of the pain. This all happened well before the fibro hit me after the truck accident in 1998. Then the Fibro hit... eeeeek. I don't use the handicapped parking on good days as I hate to take the spot away from others that need it on my good days. But if my knee hurts, or the Fibro is bloom... I'll take the spot and not think twice about it. Those spots are there to help us. Don't be embarrassed to use it or to ask for the card. If you need it,.... use it. We have enough pain in our lives that we shouldn't allow pride or anything else deter us from doing what we need to do. Yes... exercise helps us... but it can also make a bad flare much worse. I know if my arthritic knee is in flare, I better not be walking much with it, or what would be a few days rest... could easily become a 3 month full flare and the bed rest will be tenfold. If you need the card, get it... and just use it wisely. I'd be lost without mine. I take it with me when we travel, even if it's to another country. It's in my purse, and I won't think twice about putting it in the window if I need to. Ok.. ok.. I'm running off on a tangent... sowwie... not meaning to... I just don't want anyone to suffer unnecessarily. loving and gentle hugs, Norah Norah Bleazard - Burlington, Ontario Canada www.bleazard.net ~ www.janorlites.com E-MAIL= norah.fibroyahoo@...
