Guest guest
Dave & Bobby This is exactly why my expectations of people has been reduced to a minuet level. It hurt me so badly, being sick and fighting the Hep C, that so many could and would even belittle me about it. Well, I sure don't need them in my life now, just because it's cancer!! That's too phony for me, for sure. However, one group of people in my life that have always shown that they care - are my clients. Of course they would care!! Who else can they rely on through health and ill health, to keep their bookkeeping up to snuff. Ok, that's not really fair - they honestly do care because they've watched my ups and downs. I still could not fathom, that I could do such a thing to a friend; but, truly I always did wonder, if I had what it took to help a friend get through a horrible or even terminal illness. Now, I think I have that answer!! I'd much prefer to have that last bit of a relationship with a friend that feel guilt for the rest of my life, for jumping that ship. Gloria ________________________________ It kind of makes a person wonder..your story sounds like mine in many respects..when I was working as a guide, all the bosses and office people and guides would ask me for advice related to our job..they seemed to really like me, and I was very knowledgeable since I studied it constantly and liked it so much. But when I became sick it was like, " well you are no longer useful to us, so bye bye " . When I was first diagnosed and had not told anyone at work yet, I would tell the tourists and other guides to enjoy this to the fullest, that life can change in an instant! I realized that, but never imagined it would change to the extent it has. We will all be free one day. I never did it to any of my friends. My best friend told me she was terminally ill and we became closer than ever. I would not trade any thing for all the good times. She liked Chinese food and hiking ( things Sharon despises) and I think we ate in every Chinese restaurant in Denver. I got in trouble more than once for spending too much money, but oh well. I used to think that iof I ever died, my funeral would be huge... I spent a good while of my life in bands and the common link between bunches of local Denver musicians, and spent a good many years reenacting fur trade rendezvous out here, as well as work connections and a robust relationship with my best friends from high school and many others. Now, I hear from no one except those in this group. We are never invited to any functions. I stopped being bitter about it long ago, but you are so right... when they hear you are sick, people jump right off the ship. It seems a great way to keep people away..really disappoints my faith in humankind. They acted all glad to be corresponding, and once I told them my health issues..bye- bye.
