Guest guest
I had a metal top as you describe except it had thin stripes going around it instead of circus animals. I would look down at it as it spun around to watch the stripes blur together then I would go into what I think was an altered state. The whirling sound of the spinning top was part of the sensation. On car trips I would look out the window down at the street blurring below me in a similar way and go into a similar state only not as deep. When the car trips took us into the country I would look directly at passing fields or pastureland until my focus blurred like the stripes on my top. Again I would go into another state but not as deeply as when staring at the top. Even now when I am a passenger in a car on long trips I will look out the window and if my height and the angle of the window are right I will look down at the street in the city or out at passing fields in the country to return to that familiar state. ~~Bonnie > 3. Guest guest
Neat coincidence... Before I saw anyone on this list talking about metal tops, I dug mine out to look at it. I collect vintage toys, and it was given to me by sister in law, who owns an antique store. I was looking at it yesterday and saw this thread today. It has circus animals and it is from the 50's. I was also looking at them on ebay, not to buy one but to see how much mine might be worth. Spinning and Tops (was Auties in Cinema....)
