I saw it, too (even though it interrupted my listening to the audio version of " Something Rotten, " the third Thursday Next book by Jasper Fford (in which there is a character who is a reconstituted Neanderthal who, because it is a Neanderthal, has autistic characteristics). Except that it was a bit to syrupy for my taste, it (the 60 Minutes piece) was pretty good, I thought. Not sure how much it would say about autism to anyone unfamiliar with autism (I guess I forgot to pay attention to that issue because it was more interesting to see Jerry and and the animals), but it sure could have been a lot worse. The basic (syrupy) orientation seemed very NT to me, but that's because I'm not one of the autistics who is desperate to find a life-partner. According to one NT view of autism, it is just so fabulously wonderful when an autistic manages to get married. Almost like the news stories you see about a one-legged person who is good at downhill skiing. The attitude seems a bit condescending to me. Perhaps I'm over-sensitive to suspected condescension, I don't know. I thought Jerry and handled things well -- which can't have been easy. It was worth skipping the first half hour of the other show I wanted to watch, on Nova, " Origins " . Way to go, Jerry! Clay

I'm not Desperate to find a life-partner, in fact I rarely think of it, but I have to say, I Did feel envious of Jerry for that. Just having a companion, to share things with, good or bad, can be a wonderful thing. To find a true partner, who can understand when you want to be close and when you need to be alone, can be a real treasure. Clay
Guest guest
I was never desperate to find a partner either. We just sort of stumbled upon each other. The only other thing I saw about it was that Jerry and weren't really given a chance to say a lot. I know that's somewhat the nature of those shows, but for instance they showed a clip of someone asking Jerry a question and then cut to something else before he could answer it. (Making me suspect they left that clip in to show the birds or something.)
