The seven-member board voted unanimously Tuesday to wait for a state attorney general’s opinion on whether the board has the authority to ban or place warning labels on products such as aspartame. The board asked for the opinion on November 9th. The board had planned to hold five days of hearings in July, but the hearings now have been delayed until January 2007. Santa Fe gallery owner Fox has been pushing for a statewide ban on aspartame. He contends new research suggests aspartame is a toxin that can harm human health. A leading manufacturer of aspartame, Ajinomoto USA Incorporated, says the federally approved substance is safe. http://www.kob.com/index.cfm?viewer=storyviewer & id=23545 & cat=HOME -- ne Holden, MS, RD < fivestar@... > " Ask the Parkinson Dietitian " http://www.parkinson.org/ " Eat well, stay well with Parkinson's disease " " Parkinson's disease: Guidelines for Medical Nutrition Therapy " http://www.nutritionucanlivewith.com/
