Cashew and almond are tree nuts from 2 different food families. However, IF she does try these back, may want to do so under drs supervison, OR do so with epi pen handy, somebody as back up (in case she needs to go to ER) and/or while parked outside the ER door the first 2 times, should she react. Start small, and work up. . . AND, be sure the source is verified as peanut free (not from a plant that does both.) Otherwise. . . how about tahini (sesame paste. . .but not too good plain) mixed with garbanzo as hummus. Others, if you have other ideas, please post to the list as well. Guest guest
Hi Barbara, To add to Jan's excellent suggestions, I suggest soynut butter. The I. M. Healthy brand is produced in a dedicated peanut-free facility and has a similar flavor and texture to PB. It also comes in honey flavor and chocolate (my personal favorite) flavor. Here is the web site (if you can't find it in your area, there's a " where to buy " link on the site, and a toll-free number you can call): www.soynutbutter.com Best, Dina Dina Aronson, MS, RD Registered Dietitian and Nutrition Consultant nutrawiz@... www.nutrawiz.com Someone here at work asked me if I knew of any alternative " peanut butters " for someone allergic to pine nuts and peanuts. She said she used to love peanut butter! I told her about almond & cashew butter. She said she is scared to try those due to severe peanut allergy. I know peanuts are in the same family as other nuts, but are almond/cashew okay too? Guest guest
To Barbara and anyone interested, I just found out something more about the Soy Nut Butter company I mentioned yesterday-- they offer samples you can give your patients and clients. They're called Vend Paks, and they are a great a way to introduce people to a tasty, safe peanut butter alternative (and to the general category of soyfoods as well). The offer is available here: www.soynutbutter.com/vendpak. Hope this helps! Best, Dina Message: 3 Date: Tue, 9 Nov 2004 07:01:02 -0600 Subject: peanut allergy Someone here at work asked me if I knew of any alternative " peanut butters " for someone allergic to pine nuts and peanuts. She said she used to love peanut butter! I told her about almond & cashew butter. She said she is scared to try those due to severe peanut allergy. I know peanuts are in the same family as other nuts, but are almond/cashew okay too? Could you tell me what, if any, other ingredients are in the soynut butter?
