Guest guest
hello to all... I am asking for help for my mother. It would take all night to give you an accurate history, on the information I do give I hope someone can lead me to some resources. My mother attempted her 3 suicide last night...in the beginning of oct. was her 2nd attempt. She was hospitalized for a week and then sent home to see a doctor a week later (which is crazy to go that long with no help for a week after being discharged due to suicide/overdose), anyway...at the hospital they begain detox, basically put her on serequil, klonipin, and i think something else, I just cannot remember the name. She was only on that 5 days...keppra? Before this mom has taken...effexor, valium, & lortab, (ther may be others who knows). She has been on an antidep. for the past 20-25 years went off it, cold turkey mind you, 4 years ago and after being raped 2years ago went back on after much persuassion...now suffers from post-traumatic stress symdrome on top of everything else. mom also has very bad anxiety attacks and this past week the doc. put her something for that...have not talked with her to know the name of. I am sure she used this as well as cocaine to overdose like last time. The cocaine has been going on (if I am hearing the truth!) for about 5 months now. About 4 years ago when my mom went cold turkey off the antidep. she practically went into a bipolar state...showed all the sxs of it...she is truely not the same mom I had...I have suffered a death of my mom and the mom that has been around the last 4 years is totally opposite of who I used to know. She now lays in the hospital unconsious as of right now....i want her to get help...the right help so she can get off these meds and get better...please let me know of any websites...advice...any help at all...i need it...actually my mom needs it desperately...the doc's are not giving it....thank you in advance. The best I can offer you as far as help for your Mom is to suggest that she go to a residential drug treatment program. If that is not possible, I would need your Mom to express a desire to try to sort this all out. There is very little you or anyone else can do for her. She has to want it first. She has a long history of avoiding her problems and feelings. Unless she is willing to feel the pain and work with it there is very little that can be done. The answers do not lie in any kind of drugs. The only way you can help her right now is to talk to her about this. You can tell her she has only deteriorated on the drugs. Help her take an honest look at her life. If she is willing to take a different road I'd be glad to talk with her and help her find what will work for her. But I would suggest that it is inappropriate for anyone at this point to give you any more specific advice than this considering the risk for suicide that your mother presents. This is a crisis and the crisis must be stabilized and your mother's cooperation must be engaged before anyone can truly help. Even if certain factors weren't present I couldn't offer you much at this point. The information you've given is not clear enough to get a picture of what led to the suyicide attempt. Was she in withdrawal from some prescription or street drugs or does she really wish to die? BTW, cocaine is not something a person with anxiety wants to take. In fact, it causes anxiety. I would suggest that you get some support from somewhere that understands your situation like a group for children and spouses of addicts or a general codependency group. Depending on the size of your community you may be able to find some there. If not there, I am sure you can find groups online. Here is a link to some Al-Anon groups. They were originally started for people who dealt with a spouse, partner, parent, sibling, etc. who was an alcoholic. Most Al-Anon meetings today are not restricted to the alcohol issue. http://www.ola-is.org/ I wish you the best and am always here if you have any questions.
