Guest guest
Rant mode on: So I'm watching some morning show with Diane Sawyer and Charlie Gibson (?) and they are talking with some doctor about some new improved wonderful south beach diet and they've got a couple gals that have lost 10 and 15 lbs and they are just gaga over it all, made me wanna hurl. The part that really made me mad was that they made such a big deal about not having to exercise. Recommended but not required. Here's the problem: What's wrong (in the media) with having to make the effort to exercise? I don't get it. It's " ok " (as it should be) to work very hard in your vocation, to make the extra effort, to get up early, etc. But God forbid that you would need to actually exert yourself in order to keep your body healthy. When I think of all the hard things that I have to do during the day to make it in this world, and the things that others do, whether they are just tedious or acutely difficult, I think that exercising is way easier, and is usually an escape from those things. I just wish it was portrayed as such, and not only as acceptable, but expected. Rant mode off. Brett
Guest guest
Yep. Too bad, they don't realize the positive benefits of exercise on the mood, eliminating stress, and general health benefits. Guest guest
That whole concept burns my butt, too, Brett. BUT... there are a ton of people out there who just hate to exercise. I personally know a number of people on the SBD who started out on it because they could see results w/o exercise, and since then, they have been so thrilled with their weight loss that they have begun exercise programs to enjoy even better health and weight loss. This is true of everyone I know who has been on that diet. Some of them are now doing Body-for- Life challenges, something they would have NEVER considered before they started the South Beach Diet. That having been said, Dr. Agatson recommends exercise along with the diet for better health and not just weight loss. Like many diets, most people tend to only follow their interpretation of the diet. As for the women you know, hopefully their success will motivate them to exercise down the road. -Lianne > Rant mode on: > > So I'm watching some morning show with Diane Sawyer and Charlie Gibson > (?) and they are talking with some doctor about some new improved > wonderful south beach diet and they've got a couple gals that have lost > 10 and 15 lbs and they are just gaga over it all, made me wanna hurl. > The part that really made me mad was that they made such a big deal > about not having to exercise. Guest guest
Has anyone seen the new reality show " The Biggest Loser " http://www.nbc.com/The_Biggest_Loser/ What did you think? Andy
Guest guest
I don't watch much TV at all, but I did catch the episode this week. I felt bad for the people that didn't lose weight or didn't lose as much as they thought they should lose. They were losing a couple lbs and were upset and they shouldn't have been upset. Some had lost like 10 or 20 lbs the first week and then very little the second week which is exactly what you would expect. I also felt bad when the woman got voted off because she didn't have the potential to lose as much weight as the people that had more to lose. One of the members on her team was extremely cruel in the way he went about voting her off. The trainers seemed to be somewhat credible. I was looking at the menus of several of the contestants on the website and they could certainly do better for their food choices. I was asking myself " what's the point " and really didn't find the show very interesting or uplifting. Andy > > I don't watch any reality shows...is it any good?.
