Guest guest
You don't like the forums and prefer a listserv - that's okay, continue to use this group for communication that we have enjoyed - sharing resources and information. I very much enjoyed the ease of use. Resigning from the forums probably won't have much effect. But that's okay - we have our alternative and it's working. Personally I haven't been back to the forums since I registered...I get all the information I need from this group (thanks so much!!) but I'm leaving my options open for the future. Not renewing your membership to ADA? You think that will send a message? Many have tried that in the past. That only results in one less voice to be heard. If you are not a member, you have no voice. If you want to make a change, then you start from within (not without). Put your energy into the system. Become a leader. Start at the local level, then work up the ladder - be a positive voice for what you want. Don't want to be a member of ADA. Okay, that's your choice. If you don't like the member discounts for resources, meetings, etc. That's your choice. If you don't want to contribute to our professional organization, that's your choice. On the other hand, if you want to promote change, be a part of the solution! I started out at the district level in 1998; this year I'm President of Nevada Dietetic Association. Now I'm part of the group working on the Pediatric Standards of Practice and will be attending the HOD meeting at FNCE this month. I'm learning how our professional organization works and I'm meeting the folks who are currently leading it. When asked, I will voice my opinions and I will be heard. I agree that the portfolio process is cumbersome and will continue to say so at every opportunity I'm given. There are some parts that are very nice. For example, being able to count an advance practice credential (like earning the CNSD or CDE) or leadership (time spent in elected office at the district, state or national level), or the hours spent in post-graduate education. I miss the time when we just signed in at the conference and those credits (even if it is a topic I didn't plan on attending when I set up my portfolio years ago) showed up with each annual accounting. Maybe the next version of this process will bring the best of both together for us - but we have to be part of the committee that sets the policy & process. Volunteer to help direct the process! I totally admire your enthusiasm and gumption, Merav. I look forward to seeing you in a leadership role very soon! First step - unsubscribe to community list. Then - if they fail to listen and react to members fall-out, we un-renew our memberships. How is that for a plan. Again, a group action is always a strongest impact then individuals. We can circulate an e-mail hear and on RD Forum see how many wants to unsubscribe and if it is 100 or more- we pick up a date (2-3 days window) to all these 100 to actually unsubscribe. IN hopes of 95% cooperation - I thing we can send our message. How did you unsubscribe? Through the list? was it posted? (I wish, right?) . --------------------------------- Talk is cheap. Use Yahoo!
