I have to second Val on this one. It DID put me in the hospital!! When I

started dragging again after finally having a few months of feeling good on a

Levoxyl/Cytomel combo, I thought it was low thyroid again and started taking WAY

too much Cytomel (straight T3), the worse I felt, the more I took until I woke

up in the ER with a wide open IV in one arm and they were starting another in

the other one. They said my blood pressure dropped to 60/20 or something awful

like that at one point. If somebody hadn't been there to call 911 I very easily

could have died, and I felt so awful for weeks afterwards I wanted to die. Oh,

and I was taking a small dose of prednisone during this time too. So please be

careful. If nothing seems like it's working, see about getting Aldosterone

tested. It's the other adrenal hormone that can sometimes cause these things

and it is very commonly overlooked.

I don't get much of this and I am tired of being my own doc when I am too sick to be...

I was started on cortisol, 10 mg in the am and 5 mg at lunch. I did not notice my difference but I seemed to be pain free. This was almost a year ago. Then another doc put me on formulary triliothyionine or some such "natural" T3. I only noticed palpatations and the doc said to not take the T3 at the same time as the cortisol. Later he told me that my second 24 hr urine was even worse (it was). It appears either mercury poisoning or Lyme is taking out my adrenals. Don't know about the pituitary, the MRI showed it was normal.

So then he wants me to up my T3 to 90 mgs a day. I did OK and lasted all day at work but that may have been adrenaline since the job was so stressful. I have noticed my blood pressure coming way down, but not in an abnormal range, just no longer mildly high. I stopped the T3 altogether and noticed a lot of pain tho I also started exercising and mowing the yard again.

I was then prescribed very low doses of Armour, which my doc (Lyme doc prescribed cortisol and low dose Armour, environmental allergist prescribed T3 and upped my Armour to a grain, I was only taking 15 to 30 mgs before). So now I am doing a small amount of T3 with more Armour but still have the palpatations, am warmer after waking up cold, and still on cortisol.

I just do not notice a heck of a lot of difference with any of the above nor with any of the hormone replacement. All they do is either make me hot or make me hungry. I am still very fat around the middle. Sorry for the rant. Just when I think I get it, I don't!

i am willing to bet the T3 is taking out your adrenals. It took me 6

years to get to my current Armour dosage, but i was in congestive heart

failure when I started. I still don't feel like I think I should, but

then I am 52 years old now an the last time I was healthy was when I was

19, so maybe my expectations are too high. I have no more muscle/joint

tendon Pain, all my arthritis, carpal tunnel, and tendinitis are gone,

my Vericose veins are gone, the CHF is gone, and I am alive to tell

about it. I no longer get pneumonia 3-5 times a year and I have only one

allergy.. chlorine. It is poison to me. I also had insecticide poisoning

during g my hypo years and really feel the iodine has helped detox some

of that as it displaces chlorines, and fluorides in your body. Point I

am getting at is have you even been on a dose of Armour that brought

your Free levels up to above half way on the ranges and your temps to

normal? I haven't seen a doctor except for a physical for

pre-anesthesia for teeth pulling in over 5 years.. for anything. I am

never sick. Armour really is armour.. against every ill I had. Doctors

or no I would be giving it a try.

It sounds like you just plain need more Armour. Remember, most people

need 3-5 grains to be healthy--and some people need more. I think I've

seen ONE person who MAY have been optimized at less than 3 grains.

My doc did say he wanted me on more Armour. He wrote me the new script, higher than the very low dose from my Lyme doc.

Anyway, I'm glad that you have a script for a higher dose of Armour--as

you increase it, you WILL feel better.

How did you know you needed extra T3 now, and what kind do you take? I did not wake up with palpitations today but went to bed with them last night and after reading here about T3, I am weaning off it.

Do you recall how long the surgery was? Was it general anesthesia?

all 11 teeth pulled at once. The main thing is take a stress dose of at

least 20MG before they put you under. You will be fine that way and then

as soon as awake, have who ever is with you (hubby, sister mother

friend) have another 10-20MG wiht them for you to take immediately. This

is stress dosing which is a good idea for any illness or surgery that

stresses your body, and is exactly what your adrenals would be doig if

they worked correctly.

Thanks. I am so worn out all the time I just cannot imagine have surgery. I hope upping my Armour and reducing my T3 will do something.

when I was on 4.5 grains Armour my blood levels of Free T3 were

below the normal range by 50 points, that considering the ranges are

skewed told me I needed more T4 than was in Armour alone as my T4 Free

levels were just a tad over mid range. I also had major hypo symptoms

still. so I added in 25MCG in four doses of Cytomel, brand name. Then I

couldn't get that any more so I found Cynomel, Mexican version of the

same thing. Retested and that brought me up to barely within range, with

my T4 staying the same. SO I added in more Armour. This made a few more

hypo symptoms go away, but others remained, so I increased the Cynomel

to 50. I break this dosage up to 4 times a day so as not to shock my

adrenals as it is not time released. This I felt MUCH better on so I

have gradually build my dosage to what it is now, using temps and

occasional labs to see where I was. I have now lost the source for

Cynomel and am having to use Titre another brand of T3. It doesn't work

as well for me as wither of the last two kinds did, so I have on order

another brand. Trouble with this new one is it comes in capsules of

75MCG each! YEOZA!!! That is alot of T3, even for me! I am praying it is

time released, but I doubt it. If not I am gonna have to find a way to

spread 3/4 of a capsule through out the day. I can actually feel when my

T3 runs out. I can sleep standing up even on 6.5 grains Armour when it

drops, so my dosing is scheduled to get more into my system just before

this happens. Four time s a day dosing has worked for this very well.

You have to figure too, I have been juggling this dose for 8 years, and

am pretty practiced at it by now! There for a while I took temps and

symptoms every hour and journaled them. From this I got my dosages

straight!
