Guest guest
No I was never tested for antibodies in all the 30+ years I was treated for hypo. My CC labs found no antibodies, but there is a history of Hashi in my family so I believe I have it as well. -- Artistic Grooming- Hurricane WV My Ebay Jewelry Store http://stores.ebay.com/valeriescrystalcreations http://www.stopthethyroidmadness.com/ http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/NaturalThyroidHormonesADRENALS/
Guest guest
Hi Val and EveryOne, My CC labs found no antibodies either but at the time I had them done I was taking 4 Grains of Armour and even though I sitll had a high normal TSH and middle of the road Free T3 & T4, I wondered if my antibodies were surpressed by the 4 grains of Armour. Unfortunately the original doc that tested me for Thyroid only did the TSH even though I requested more so I don't know if I would have had antibodies then or not. Can there be an accurate detection of antibodies once you are on a substantial dose of thyroid hormone? Guest guest
>>Can there be an accurate detection of antibodies once you are on a substantial dose of thyroid hormone?<< It is not the problem of detection while on Armour but the very real possibility that once your own thyroid is fully suppressed on Armour the antibodies may be lowered to undetectable amounts. Actually I think antibodies are better detected in blood than saliva, but that is just my opinion. -- Artistic Grooming * Hurricane, WV My Ebay Jewelry Store http://stores.ebay.com/valeriescrystalcreations The BEST thyroid website! http://www.stopthethyroidmadness.com http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/NaturalThyroidHormonesADRENALS/
Guest guest
Hi Bev, There's a pet theory out there that once you're at a TH dose that suppresses thyroid function, the thryoid will " hide " from the immune system -- or not send TPO, TBG, TSH etc out into the bloodstream where it can be seen -- and this will slow or depress antibody production. Anecdotally, this seems to bear out, but I don't think it's ever been put to an official scientific test. As I'm learning, antibody testing is enormously expensive. My jaw just about hit the floor the first time I had to order a few antibodies -- $3000 worth of reagents showed up in a carton smaller than a shoe box! Ergo, most insurance companies won't cover antibody testing beyond diagnostic purposes so doctors just don't order it. Guest guest
Actually, that's very true. Of the five classes of antibodies, only a subset of one type (IgA) can cross mucus membranes into saliva, and it mainly serves a watchdog function to protect against diseases you've been exposed to recently. The other 4 1/2 classes are only found in the blood.
