Sharon,

I have the fibromyalgia and osteoarthritis and I can tell when a snowstorm is coming by how bad my knees and legs ache. Comes in kind of handy sometimes, not really. :) S.

Hello My name is sharon and I have FM,I have only been diagnosed for 6

months now but have been suffering for several years without knowing why.

My questions are many, but will start slow. First with all this pain

I am no longer able to take care of my large dream home, so Hubby and

I are selling and moving to a smaller home. My question is, does warm

weather help or hinder FM? I can't stand the cold anymore here in

land and we are thinking about Florida. I know it is really hot

there in the summer, is it too hot? I really do not know what to do

and would love to hear from others regarding moving to Fl. Are any of

our members from FL. I would love to hear from anyone with any ideas.

thanks, Sharon in land

Sharon,

in ville, Florida here. The heat makes my fibro MUCH better. But I've heard from some people that the humidity bothers them. Although too many people down here depend on the air conditioning too much, I think. so when they go outside, the temp/humid difference is too much for them. I think that one of the reasons the humidity doesn't bother me much is that we never had air conditioning until this last August. We used floor fans for cooling. So I was never too adapted to the cool/dehumid environment.

However, in the winter, we can get in the 40's frequently and below freezing several times. If you're moving here for the weather, I'd suggest keeping more to the south end. We're headed to the Keys when my daughter graduates from HS in 2006.

Florida is nice. The people and the laws are weird, but the weather is lovely.

Sharon:

You live in land. So do I.

I have seen a lot of people for the fibromyalgia and the myofascial pain. So have I.

I have had it for 18 years.

I would recommend that you see a gentleman named Jan Dommerholt. He is in Bethesda, land. He has helped me more than anyone with a treatment called Dry Needling.

It is based on the work of Janet Travell and Simons, who pioneered work in this field.

Interestingly enough, Mr. Dommerholt is co-director of the Janet G.Travell, MD Seminar Series, which offers the only post-graduate course in dry needling in the US. So your geographic location fortunately puts you near him if you want to check it out.

I am going give you his phone number and web site, but I do not want you to think this is advertising or promotion in any way. I have no connection with his clinic, and no financial involvement with it in any way. I never knew him before I went to him as a patient. So do what you want with this information. I will simply state that over the course of 18 years, I flew repeatedly to the best hospitals, best pain centers, and saw the best doctors. None made the difference that Mr. Dommerholt has made. His phone is . His web site is www.painpoints.com

Good luck. You can call me if you have any questions.

Sharon,

I am here in Tucson, Arizona. I grew up in Minnesota and there is no way this disease would make it there. It gets down to below freezing here also during the winter and my muscles hurt. I have problems during the winter that I don't have during the summer. The monsoon season is hard but not like the winters.
