- Living Donor

Hi ,

My name is and my husband Phil was dx with PSC 2/00 and is listed as a status 3. At first we were told by his GI that he didn't think living donor transplant was an option for Phil. So we put that thought out of our minds. Well, this pass week his 6 month appointment at the transplant center was more informative. We were told that he would be better with a living donor transplant than waiting on the list.

, Phil's first reaction was there's no way I could ask that of anybody. I of course wanted to be tested, but was turned down because I'm too small and the doctor doesn't like to do female to male and also because I'm his wife. Plus Phil would not hear of it.

Today we got a phone call from very close friends of ours. At the beginning of finding out about Phil my friend's husband offered to be tested to see if he could be a match. At the time we said thanks but the GI said that wasn't an option for Phil (living donor). Well, when I told her what the doctors said she right away said the offer still stands. The flood gates opened, because it's just an offer you don't know how to except. Later on her husband called Phil personally and told him he won't take no for an answer. He said he had researched it and has the time and the finances to do it. I know there's still the possibility that he won't be a match, but we will cross that bridge when we get to it.

I know you can relate to this. Please tell me how you and handi came to this decision and what steps took place from that time to now. I read your post and I know you say you and Handi are doing well. If you don't mind would you please share with us your experience. I want to show this to Phil and the couple involved as well.

I have so many questions and I know I have to address them to the transplant team. I'm putting them down on paper for our next visit on the 19th of this month. Is there anything I need to know to ask?
