Guest guest
--Sheryl: I was on Duragesic for 1.5 years. I too think they helped through the worst of the pain. However, once I started getting better in other ways, the Duragesic had to go. The first day I took the Duragesic, I was really sleepy. The second day I was less sleepy, but starting to feel pain. The third day the patch would start to wear off, have more pain, and I would get the withdrawal symptoms: ringing ears, diarrhea, vomitting, lots of pain. I do think it helped to get over the worse part, even though I still had some pain. Then I just bit the bullet and spent one week without them and cleaning my body out. I used a 50 mg patch. I would recommend that if your pain is so intense that you don't have a life, you might as well get some pain relief and have a life. Now I don't take anything but Ibuprofen occasionally because I have gotten better using dr. lowe's protocol.
Guest guest
Dear Sheryl and others, The most common pain patch is called Duragesic, and contains the drug Fentynl, which is a very strong narcotic pain med even stronger than morphine. They are used mainlly to treat cancer patients. I wish I could find a doctor willing to rx them for me. I think I am going to have to look for another doctor, at least to handle my breakthrough pain. I had called my internist's office and explained that I could not get an appointment with my ortho until the 16th and that I needed enough Lortab to get me through until then. What they called in were 20 capsules with directions to take one or two per day and that they must last me until the 18th (not the 16th, as I told them on their answering machine). I take two of these every 4 to 6 hours, so there is no way that I will make it to the 16th unless God sees fit to bless me with some pain free (or almost) days as happened recently. I think it is time that I paid a visit to the family practice doc that I saw back in 1997 when I had an HMO. At least he would rx Tylenol #4 or Lortab for me. I will ask him about rx'ing the Oxy also, and if he is agreeable, I will have all of my records transferred to his office. I do not like giving up Dr. Finn, as I have been seeing him since 1994 (except for the year 1997 when I had an HMO), but I know how much I can and cannot handle. Doubt that Dr. Woodall will be exactly thrilled to see me back, but it won't cost me anything to at least give it a try. Painfully yours, Sharon Faith...with it, miracles *CAN* and *DO* happen! Guest guest
Dear Sharon, Have you ever hear of Lidoderm? It is Lidocaine patch 5%. Any way the company that makes it is called ENDO Pharmaceuticals. My RA gave me 2 envelopes with 2 patches per envelope. You cut them to fit the place you need them. Then you peel the plastic off and place them on your skin. You can use them for up to 12 hours in a 24 hour period. My pharmacist said that they are in the same family as novacain. I would ask your doctor if he/she could let you try them. I think they must be relatively new. The information pamplet states that they are for relief of pain associated with post-herpetic neuralgia and that it should only be applied to " intack " skin. I don't know what post- herpetic neuralgia is, but I can tell you that it helped my trigger points between my shoulders and neck.
