Guest guest
If you do a search in Internet explorer and search for " online scanners " it brings up several good choices. If that doesnt help, email me off the group at clowe48407@... and I will supply you with some good sites. If you are looking for stuff in Oregon which I doubt you are, I have most all of them. L. Guest guest
The book that is posted by radio shack is nice to have. the frequencies are correct however the listings in the book name wise are not always correct! Guest guest
I don't know if this is the same one you're talking about or not, but the one I like to use is Betty Bearcat's scanner guide. It has everything you can think of, and I've never had a bit of trouble with the book's format. It's a tad expensive, tho...although I got around it by borrowing my granny's copy of the book..ROFL. Guest guest
The thing you have to remember about the POLICE CALL series from Radio Shack, is that it is merely a list of the frequencies authorized to each licensee. The original application to the FCC for station licenses usually state what service is intended for each frequency, but that can change. You may find several frequencies listed for an agency, then have to figure out which ones are primary channels, and which are 'tactical' or administrative frequencies. In effect, it simply gives you the frequencies the agency is authorized to use. You have to figure out which are the ones you want to monitor. The suggestion to locate a local HAM radio operator is a good one. They will either have the information you need, or can direct you to it. If you can't find a HAM, check with your local Office of Emergency Services. They can probably direct you to their RACES (Radio Amateur Civil Emergency Services) Radio Officer. For a list of frequencies used in the central California area, I have a partial list at: http://kc6yru.cnetech.com/scan.txt It is basically correct, but it is a few years old now, so some listing may no longer be accurate.
