Is Your Child Being Served Or Dumped

In The Least Restrictive Environment

August 18, 2003 3:00-4:30 PM EST

Some of the topics include;

The United States Supreme Court, in its first case involving special education, stated that it would violate a child's right to a free appropriate public education if they "were left to fend for themselves in classrooms designed for education of their nonhandicapped peers." [board of Education v. Rowley, 458 U.S. 176 (1982) at p. 191]

The Supreme Court in Rowley required, for the program to be appropriate, that it be "individualized," "personalized," "specially designed" and "tailored" to meet the"unique needs" of that one child.

Where did "the Least Restrictive Environment" come from?

What are the LRE requirements under Section 504 and the ADA?

Using All Your Administrative Remedies Available Under Federal Laws To Get What Your Child Needs Without Having To File For Mediation and/or Due Process

(Register Here or View More Info)

August 19, 2003 - 9:00-10:30 PM, EST

Some of the topics include:

Many parents tell us they "have tried everything" and that nothing is left except to file for Mediation or Due Process (a Hearing) under the IDEA.

Mediation is a very tricky process that can lose a parent everything they are trying to get for their child and a Due Process Hearing can lead directly into Court and a long period of effort and expense -- when all the parent wanted was to solve a problem that is hurting their child today.

"Exhausting" your remedies

Always focus on Federal law

FERPA

IDEA

Where can your child go? Why not where every other child can go.

When we get to the point of saying "Where does this all go?" we need to talk about Transition Planning.

Hit a brick wall?
