Guest guest
, Welcome to the group and the beginnings of your new Body-for-LIFE. I have just started my 3rd 12 week cycle and am a little confused as to where folks have gotten the idea that they are supposed to give up coffee. You are not the first with this thought, so I'm wondering if I have missed something, somewhere in the BFL guides. I am a 5'11 " male and coinciding with the end of my 2nd 12 week cycle last week, I have lost a net of 90 pounds, have gained an incredible level of strength, and I have not given up my coffee. ...Yet!?!?! Of course, I might be missing your source of this info and can think about changing gears if need be. I remember actually reading posts from Bill that suggest having your coffee before doing your workout to encourage fat loss. The caffeine is a stimulant that does something to trigger your metabolism to attack the fat for energy. Bill does suggest having black coffee for this purpose, because cream and sugar would add carbs and detract from the added fat burn qualities of the coffee before a workout. As he notes, if you have to, add a sugar substitute, but I did get used to drinking it black. Bill also encourages our workout be done early in the morning, before consuming any calories, while your glycogen levels are at their lowest. This will encourage your body to turn to it's fat stores for energy. Of course, I've also read that your body will first attack your muscle tissue, rather than fat stores, so I don't know which is absolute. Then there are other counter points that suggest that your current calories in excess of your needs will be moved back to the fat stores, so why bother starving yourself before a workout. ...Whew!!! This stuff can be really confusing!!! To make my program easy, I simply follow Bill's suggestion on working out shortly after waking up and having my coffee to stimulate my metabolism. For my purposes, to avoid the attack on my muscle tissue, I'll have my Phosphagen XT and my protein shake (or other similar higher protein breakfast) within one hour of my workout. This all seems to work for me, but, others may know better. Guest guest
Find out if it contains calories. If no calories or very few, it isn't going to hurt your progress one tiny bit. Guest guest
I hear ya! Coffee is my unhealthy vice and I do want to cut back but I can't imagine cutting it out. Sara ----- Original Message ----- > Hey all, I hear arguments pro and con caffeine. I have decided that I am going to continue with coffee and tea. I am trying to eliminate sodas. I drink too much coffee. I am just glad I don't drink too much beer or eat too much greasy, unhealthy food. If I am going to " too much " something, it's coffee. > Dan
