Guest guest
Annette, I am sending you this web site on stress there is a good part in there that says dispatchers should have books, knitting so on because it keeps them alert. Anyway it is written by doctors that work with police related stress. Go to the part 3/4 Police Stress line: high risk occupational stress, law enforcement stress, police officer PTSD, police psychology down on the list and it says dispatchers. Maybe you can suggest to your department to have some books or whatever by documentation from a doctor that it is better for the dispatchers. Hope you find it all right and GOOD LUCK. Guest guest
Have a TV, with a satellite with 800 channels, a stereo and can play CDs on the computer. As long as the work is accomplished, there is no concern what I do. Generally only watch the news and turn it off at 0900 Hrs. Guest guest
We have a TV and cable and a VCR. No restrictions as long as we use some > common sense and keep the volume low. And as long as we keep our minds on > our job. It's nice actually, especially on midnights and Weekends when > things are very slow. > Same at our agency. We're also allowed books, crafts, etc. Administration tried to ban everything a couple of years ago but it didn't work out too well. Somebody also brought in an article from one of the dispatch magazines that recommended these type of activities to reduce stress. We also argued against it and most of us admittedly broke the ban whenever there were no supervisors around at nights or on weekends.
