Guest guest Posted April 12, 2006 Report Posted April 12, 2006 Hello, all Another dreaded holiday coming. Too bad, especially when you are Christian and want to focus on the meaning of it, but of course being Christian means nada FOGging you about how you aren't acting like a Christian b/c you are not spending time with your " family. " Of course, me spending time with my daughter isn't good enough for nada. Nada asked my boyfriend if he was able to come eat at her house on Sunday at 3. This is while I was standing there, of course. BF said his family has plans during that time and so nada moved it back to noon and BF said that would probably work. BUT, I am having major nada ick make me sick issues and decided today for sure I don't want to go over there. So I told BF I told nada 'no' and warned him she would call him up to hear it from him, b/c of course with him being Hispanic and all family oriented, she would wonder how he would go along with an anti-family person like me. Besides, he said noon would work, and of course it does not matter what I think b/c she did not ask. She just assumes, as usual. No surprise there. So daughter and I will go with BF to church way on the other side of town. Then daughter and I will come back home and do whatever while BF goes to visit all his family. I would go, but I feel awkward in family situations that are larger than about 2 or 3 adults. There will only be 6 adults, but for me it's too awkward. Last time I was around them (have been twice) they did not talk to me really, and I am so socially inept I don't know what to do. Family gatherings is where family is so focused on family I feel like the odd one out. Kids are a different story. I can talk with kids, although am less comfortable with teens (except my daughter). Besides that, daughter is bored over there; she doesn't know what to do with herself, either, and the kids did not really attempt to associate with her. She's kind of socially inept, too. And my BF is a kid magnet so all his nieces and nephews want his attention when he is around them, which is fine, at least I can watch. I just feel too weird around all the adults. What do you guys do? Anyone feel really awkward trying to hang around other people's families? Theresa Quote
