Guest guest
Hi , hello everyone, I don't want to rapid fire but just wanted to say that as I am in the UK, the testing might be different so I will check with the practice nurse next time exactly what the " MTX Check " comprises and pass it on. I know it does all the liver stuff plus B12. Also, when I first went on MTX they took my blood once a week to keep a close eye on me (Nov 2010) and it has only dropped off to bi weekly, now monthly since the end of March. I wondered with what regularity, , your blood is tested. I need a little support right now from a " lessons learned " story about going to stay with a " friend " (which went diastrously wrong) but will put it on another post. I just wanted to say right here though that through the experience, I honestly had all of you in my head as I took my decisions step by step and because of you I got myself out of danger and will be able to put it as an " I learned this " as opposed to four weeks ago when it would have been an " Oh my God. " So I thank God for you all. With love Fran x To: Stillsdisease From: stephenclark@... Perhaps I should write to my doctor and ask if it can be included in my monthly blood test. I know I have my kidneys and liver tested (Liver enzymes have been over 100 on last test), but nothing to do with vitamins. Are you tested for any others apart from vitamin b12? Guest guest
I get checked for Vit Deficiencies also (both in Seattle and here in Nashville). I was defiant in different Vits before I even started MTX so the docs always watch them close. I don't know whether it is standard practice or not, but all three rheumy's I have gone to have done this. Alli
Guest guest
Francesca, couldn't have put it better. I have been through many tough times here and the 'family' has really been a life saver for me. We are all here for you. Hang in there. We are all here for you. Guest guest
Hi Fran, I'm in the UK too, near Manchester. It's quite surprising that the consultants I've had over here, haven't done the obvious (to me, in hindsight) which is pretty disappointing. For instance I was never even put on calcium tablets in the earlier years when I was on higher doses of Pred. Now I'm on 4mg, I'm taking them! Fran, I go for bloods every 4 weeks and have my own Blood Monitoring book, which the nurse fills out - well she writes some in and often leaves some blank for some unknown reason. The things taken are: Hb - haemaglobin WBC - White blood count Neutrophils Platelets ESR ALT (liver enzymes) PIINP Creatinine Potassium Blood Pressure So as you can see they monitor nothing regarding vitamins, with potassium being the mineral. So anything that can be found out regarding the 'MTX Check' could prove very useful. I had a test at a herbal place a few years ago, which used an electrical piece of equipment used to detect any intolerances or deficiencies - not convinced they actually work, but the only thing I was noted for was a wheat intolerance. I can't say eating Shredded Wheat has ever given me side effects though! lol. Regards, Steve RE: Methotrexate + Grey Hair / Hair Loss Hi Francesca, I don't get tested for vitamin deficiency at all.
