Guest guest Posted February 11, 2004 Report Posted February 11, 2004 WHY would there not be major books or at least articles on this subject? SURELY there is something in GB where they have outlawed the use of these meds? Would such a book not sell enough to pay for the publishing? The withdrawal protocols for adults would most likely apply to children as well. In 's book "Your Drug May Be Your Problem" he suggests no more than a 10% reduction every 2 - 3 weeks, and I believe he suggests tackling one drug at a time. To my knowledge, there is no book that specifically addresses this issue in children, but the protocols are the same as with adults -- going very slowly, and waiting a sufficient amount of time before another reduction. In the UK, Dr. Healy's protocol suggests switching to Prozac if you're withdrawing from Paxil. Then there's Ashton's protocol for getting off benzos. Because you haven't or cannot tell us which drugs this child is on, I can only give you a broad-spectrum of information that is available. Getting a child off these meds does not require re-inventing the wheel -- the principles are the same as for adults, but obviously require constant monitoring and supervision and of course, nutritional support.
