Guest guest
Michele: Caitlyn did not get her first tooth until 14 mos. This was after 11 whole months of swollen gums and the dr saying at each and every visit (every week!) they look like they're going to come in any day now (if I had a dime for every time the dr was wrong about anything, I'd be making more money than he!) I really felt that after all that she'd be late getting the rest of her teeth but after the first one they slowly came in painfully 1 by 1. After the first one it took about 1-3 months of swollen gums for a tooth to come in, probably partly because she never put anything in her mouth (other than a bottle) until after she was 2 yrs. I remember how upset I was with all the difficulties we'd had with EVERYTHING else, that she couldn't even have a tooth grin to give us. I also remember thinking on her 1st birthday that it would probably be ANOTHER year before she got her first tooth. But now at 3 yrs old with a full set of teeth and a smile that melts everyone's heart, it seems so silly that I let it bother me. Jeanne M. In the book, Don't Sweat the Small Stuff, he talks about the 100 year rule. You know, you're supposed to consider if whatever you're worrying about will matter in 100 years. I guess how soon or late a kid gets teeth won't matter by then. I try not to worry about Aubrie's motor skills (sitting, crawling, walking, talking, etc) and just keep in mind that she will do all those things by kindergarten or so. So it doesn't matter if it's " on time " . Eventually, it won't matter at all. I'm certainly learning to let go of a lot of stuff that used to be a big deal. Do you ever think about how you'd be if Caitlyn were healthy? I can sometimes picture myself if Aubrie had been born without CHARGE. I'd be worrying about all the stuff that used to make me crazy. I'd also be enjoying many things that I can't enjoy now, but let's not dwell on that. Michele
