Guest guest
Hello, my name is Janeth Velasquez. I am happy to be here at ASPIRES to share with you the experiences, learning and unlearning that I have gone through since I found out my boyfriend has Asperger. Thanks to some emails I sent and got from Maxine Aston, I came to realize that my BF is an Aspie, I am a NT. I have bought, read and analyze several books and each time I am 100% of his condition. My special interest is finding a voice out there that can help me with a specific situation and it is that his therapist decided to medicate him with Seroquel although I talked to her and request for a diagnosis in AS, she said that he is not an Aspie, instead medicated him without any making any assessment. I would also like to share my experience in dealing with this particular relationship since I am an alcoholic, sober for 2 years and 7 months now, in a 12 step program, and he is an Aspie that I think is a heavy drinker. Well many things here. I hope to find the voices here :-)

Wouldn't you think it a bit " iffy " , were *you* to be diagnosed (-anything!-) on the basis of emails and books - merely?? NO face-to-face professional assessment? There's a lot of that " going around " . It's dangerous, frankly. > My > special interest is finding a voice out there that can help me with a > specific situation and it is that his therapist decided to medicate > him with Seroquel although I talked to her and request for a > diagnosis in AS, she said that he is not an Aspie, instead medicated > him without any making any assessment. [ snip ] *That's* bad form! Prescribe without a differential diagnosis?? Please do READ ABOUT THE DRUG (an alternate name): <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Quetiapine> ....most especially and carefully the sub-section on " Side Effects " . - Bill, dx AS; ...clinically-oriented professional (retired) -- WD " Bill " Loughman - Berkeley, California USA http://home.earthlink.net/~wdloughman/wdl.htm
