Oh my word! What a terrible time. I am glad four years have passed. Don't

you now remember the beauty in the love you shared? I hope so.

What a nightmare this list must have been in.

Thank you Sandie

Yes, Imogene, so happy four years have passed.

At times though it seems not even that long ago

and at times it seems the time has truly past by.

There is/was so much love that radiated in

caregiving for my dad and this list. I didn't find

this list until January of 2002 and my dad passed

away Sept. 2002. Never would I have ever thought

there would be people all through the US and the

rest of the world holding my dear dad in the palms

of their hands and sending up prayers for our

Heavenly Father to hold as well. Such a blessing!

Even during the toughest struggles I was thankful

for having my dad with me. I lived by the theory

that " as long as there is life, there is hope. " I

cherished each and every moment, no matter

what was dealt. There is such a finality after the

journey has ended. Still blessings, but an end

to building memories.

So, with this said, let me end with a small verse

of a song I had played at my dad's funeral...

" turn around slowly, time is a racer, in a wink of

an eye it goes from here to there...turn around

slowly, cherish this moment, this moment is all

that we have... "

Love this moment as if it were the last and each

moment will be a blessing-

Love and hugs to you dear Imogene. It is a true

blessing to have you here-

Sandie, what a beautiful verse! I know it was pleasing to all. Did you

actually play it? or have it played? Oh, looking back, you said you had it

played.

It is most special.

Not so fast on the blessing to have me here, dear Sandie. I haven't gotten

to the point that I will continuously cry, or fuss. That day is coming, and I

know it. But, knowing is strength in itself. I have already felt strength

through things others have said on this List. I felt I was still in control

when he acted out, because I knew how to take it.

Yes, I must agree this is the best List around. Everyone is always kind,

and I sure need that.

I heard the song I mentioned, " Turn Around Slowly "

played on the Delilah Show (inspirational radio

show on evenings) while I was driving home from

seeing my dad late one evening. I usually, well,

mostly visited dad by myself. I had heard this

male artist singing a song to my heart. I researched

it on my own and found nothing. I happened to go

to a local library where the librarian found it. The

only information I had was...male artist, and some

of the lyrics...she found it. Needless to say

Kauffman is a Christian artist and his music could

be bought by calling his phone number or ordering

online. I didn't have Internet at the time. So I

called and lo and behold, I spoke to Kauffman

himself. I ordered an extra CD for the librarian,

bought a thank you card and took it to her. This

was atleast 2 years before my dad passed away.

I just did a search online...typed in Kauffman

and came up with his website. I am looking to see

if there is a sample of his songs.

Thank you for writing Imogene.

Many hugs to you and your True Texas Gentleman-

Hi Imogene-

Here's hoping all goes well with the rest results and

that your body is feeling the rest you are giving it.

Thank you for taking time to write and for letting us

know how you are doing.

It is so nice to hear you have received help with

the lawn clean up. We have been doing a bit

every day. We moved to this house in April and

when someone asked how many trees we have

we took it upon ourselves to count...31 trees. Plus

we have 3 Fir's. The many trees we have

have put a new meaning to " fall " this year. The

leaves and such are beautiful and plentiful.

I had read that your daughter in NY wanted to pay

for a service to help you and your hubby. It goes

to show what a wonderful job you did in raising

your kids. Much help on the spot and even long

distance. Heartwarming for sure!

Take care Imogene. Many people need you here

and you are needed at home.

-- Re: Imogene /Doctor visit

Thank you beloved Sandie,

It is very hard, and getting more difficult each day. I am getting help in

every direction. I have spent hours researching what kind of help we can

get.

One daughter in NY felt terrible that she couldn't be here for the big fall

clean up of our accumulated junk and brush, Sunday, but she even made a

better

offer. She wants to pay for a service to come in and help us on a long term

basis.

The other kids are studying getting us a central heating and A/C unit, new

flooring, and insulation in the attic. But, they are having to put their

heads

together, and they may not be able to handle all of that. It is most

commendable that they want to do all this.

Our little house is in our picture album on this site. I am standing in

front of it in " OUR " red suit. My precious wanted me to have that suit

years ago,

and oh mercy me, I don't wear that much red anymore. So he took me out to

eat on our anniversary, and Valentine's Day, and I fit right in. Other wise

no

way will I wear that suit. But, I have enjoyed pleasing him. He wanted it

in

the worst way.

Now, I am too tired to think about that red suit, much less feel like

putting it on.

Thank you for your love Sandie, I feel the same about you. This list is one

of the finest. We don't fight. There is no place for it with caregivers who

are trying to support each other, and your letter just supported me. Thank

you.

And this is Sandie

Hoping you get answers on Monday to help you

and Don with your daily living. There are organizations out there " we " just

have to do all

the research to find them. Nooks and crannies

are where these organizations are. I remember

sitting down with our phone book and starting with

" A " and going through every office, organization,

and person I could until I got some help for my

dad. It was days worth of phone calls but I was

determined to get him some help.

It does sound like you and your Dear Don have

a kindred spirit, a love for one another that not

everyone has the chance to find in life.

Continue to take care of yourself and know that

many prayers are going up for both you and Don.

May you feel His strength-

Sandie, It sounds as if we won't qualify for any help, yet. If I can stand

on two legs and drag myself to the sink to clean a few dishes, then that is

fine, I guess. But, actually I am looking for services I pay for to a

degree,

but not total out of pocket for help for cleaning. One source wanted too

much.

I have another that will call me Monday, and I will see what they offer.

Thanks for your input, Sandie. Just because I don't feel well, isn't enough

to

qualify.

This morning my daughter came over, and said she will make it a priority to

be here at least twice a week. My sinus infection has gone to my bad lungs

of

course. So I am sick. I was trying to get coffee, and a bite to eat with it

so that I would have something in my stomach when I took this cortisone. I

spilled coffee all over the counter, then I was going to heat it some more

and

poured it in the microwave. Don told me to go sit down and he would clean it

up. ( I have Essential Tremor). My daughter came in and had brought us

some

lunch. It all upset Don with so much happening at once. When he sat down to

ask a blessing when I ate, he couldn't think. His words are

incomprehensible.

He finally got his thought straight. He said, " Honey you are right, I don't

function well under stress. "

Thanks for writing. I am just wading through trying to find ways to help US

Hi Imogene-

I wish I could help with this. I remember with my

dad, here in Iowa, dad had to have a need for a

nurse to come in and then once a nurse was

helping dad in his home then social workers,

cleaning help and others could come in. Dad

was too sick to live on his own and too well to live

in a nursing home. Plus, once the nurse finished

her evaluations and such and she was no longer

coming in to help dad, the other services stopped

as well. This of course was all evaluated by the

nursing staff...I always felt dad NEEDED more

help. One dear nurse could see the need so

she made the paperwork show there was a

need for her to be there. She must have seen

the exhaustion in my eyes.

Thank you Sandie. Yes, looking and calling is what I have been doing. I will

will direct me to a lot of help.

Yes, I have been truly blessed with my beloved, Don. I hope and pray this

terrible disease doesn't change him into a monster. We talked about it just

yesterday, and

I had to tell him that if it came to that I may have to let him go with his

daughter in the NH. I pray it doesn't happen. His daughter has been a nurse

there for over twenty years. She took care of Mamaw, and Papaw, and will care

for her daddy.

Asking for help on this list has been very rewarding. I thank all of you

very much.

And Imogene,

When you get an Agency on the line and even if they tell you, no they can't

help, always ask, " Do you know anyone who can.? " There is always the United Way

that can tell you a number of places. I think UW is all over in the States. And

they have lists of places they give money to and know what each agency does.

Just a clue on how to not have to make so many calls yourself.
