Guest guest
hello everyone, First off i'm posting this in prozac awareness and withdrawal and recovery groups. So you may have already read this my mom told me that she went off prozac cold turkey about a week and a half ago, after taking it for 9 years. She doesn't believe that anything could happen to her, because her doctor told her that its ok. He also told me that it was ok to do this. She's going off of it because she has no interest in sex, and my step-father said, while drunk, that they should get a divorce because of it. Now i don't think he really meant it but my mom is planning on going off prozac and onto wellbutrin. She doesn't think that i'm suffering from anything caused by taking prozac she just thinks im depressed. she hasn't really said this to me but this is what i think. she said nothing bad is going to happen to her. She told me to ask my group what they think about going off cold turkey, since she doesn't believe me. -joe

Not having a sex drive means she IS having side effects. What does she think THAT is. Her withdrawals may not kick in for a week or more because Prozac has a long half-life. Guest guest
Hiya Joe, Pleasure to post to you! - Nice to e-meet ya. After reading your post, my first response, to myself was " yikes! " Man...I don't have a valid opinion, per say, that can sway her in any one way. But, wouldn't one think, that after 9+ years of steady SSRI use, that she should maybe taper??? or something? Seems to me, that the length she's been on the SSRI, that c/t could be a bit dangerously rough with the w/d's...though the Wellbutrin may buffer it. Sorry I can't offer more. I'm more schooled in the benzo's, than SSRI's... I feel for her though, and what you're and she's going thru. Keep a brave face! It may take up to 2 weeks or a little longer for her to begin to feel it. Then she will be stunned by the various withdrawal symptoms she will have. What do I think of her going cold turkey? I think her doctor is a quack and she is going to suffer long term consequences from doing this. I've seen it hundreds of times. Is she beginning the Wellbutrin immediately? She may want to look at these (more to understand you than anything). http://www.enw.org/Research-SSRI.htm (on withdrawal) http://www.breggin.com/bulletinprozac5.html Regards,
Guest guest
Joe, can you talk to your step dad? He may run if she does go ballistic... Nine years is a very long time to have been dulled... her doctor is wrong, just read the package inserts, they say to never go cold turkey and go with the doctor's advise... she seems to have a real winner of a doctor... when does she intent to start the next drug? Good grief.... good luck, > hello everyone, > > First off i'm posting this in prozac awareness and withdrawal and > recovery groups.
