Thanks for sharing that Myria.  It makes sense that if the

HgbA1C is elevated, it’s elevated for a reason.  I have been using it to reassure

myself and patient that not yet diabetic if HgbA1C normal, despite elevated

fasting sugars.  And then I would tell them that if elevated but < 7, even if

we hadn’t gotten a fasting over 125 or post prandial over 160 that they would

be considered “controlled Diabeticsâ€.    Now it’s official.

Came out at end of year on 12/31/09 I think -- really snarky to do this so late.........

ADA is now saying HgbA1C can be used for diagnosing DM with > or = 6.5 as diabetic and 5.7-5.4 as prediabetic. Additonally, stating that Aspirin starting at age 40 can now be moved to 50 in males and 60 in females unless there are additonal cardiovascular risks factors.
