make up remover formula?

Does anyone have a formula for a VERY basic makeup remover? I've

started wearing makeup again (first time in 15 years) and see no

reason to go back to buying remover...surely I have something in the

supply boxes to make a simple remover?

I thought I remembered a formula on the list that was basically a

mild surfactant plus mineral oil (and probably an emulsifier), but

couldn't find it...

The simpler the better - I have perversely sensitive skin on my face,

so botanicals are generally out all together - which, by the way,

made FINDING makeup a pain in the butt! What on EARTH would possess

a cosmetics company to put aloe vera and other assorted botanicals

into a foundation? Or heavy fragrance? I drove the lady at the

cosmetics counter NUTS, putting back one thing after an another

because it had botanicals in it or fragrance or didn't have

ingredients listed - it's not law here in Canada yet. The fragrance

thing especially annoyed me...its' not that I'm fragrance sensitive -

I'm not really - but the scent of your cosmetics should NOT be strong

enough to overpower your cologne.

wow...that was a lot of ranting, wasn't it...

Hi, here's a simple one CC-12 from ICI based on mineral oil :

Facial Washing Cream

A Mineral Oil 16

Cetyl Alcohol 4

Lanolin 2

Arlacel 165 10

Tween 60 1

B Glycerol 5

Water 62

C Fragrance qs

Color qs

Heat (A) to 65°C and (B) to 65°C. Add (B) to (A) with continued

stirring until the emulsion temperature drops to 45°C. Add © and

continue agitation until cool. The Tween 60 will produce a slight

foaming action.

what's Arlacel 165? I'd have to tweak this one anyway, since I'm

allergic to lanolin, but I am curious about the Arlacel 165...

thanks

But then I'd have to remove the oil too...which would call for a

surfactant anyway...(I won't leave vegetable oil sitting on my

face...ewwww). Plain mineral oil would also remove the makeup, with

the added advantage of not becoming rancid while it sits in my humid

bathroom, but I'd like something a bit more complete.

Hi, Arlacel 165 is an emulsifing wax from Uniqema, glyceryl stearate

and PEG-100 stearate. You can probably use any ewax, Polawax, Ewax

NF, etc. I think you can also remove the lanolin and replace with

something you like. All you'll have to do is rebalance the emulsifier

if needed, I think you can just remove it with out changing anything.

Hi Jules,

I've used our Olive Oil PEG 7 Esters with a vegetable oil and it works

beautifully. It's water soluble and oil dispersible and would also work with

something like mineral oil or fractionated coconut oil.

Arlacel 165 = Glyceryl Stearate (and) PEG-100 Stearate (HLB = 11).

I think you should be looking at a water in oil emulsion. The " active

ingredient " (mineral oil) is the external phase and will do the job.

Traditionally, cleansing creams are w/o

emulsions.
