Alcohol, Relaxation, and Brain Re-Growth.

Hi Everyone,

On reflection I thought my last post on vitamin D could have written

in half the words so I will try to be more concise this time.

I was interested in the study that found that moderate drinking

boosted brain cell re-growth so I did an internet search on this

because alcohol is normally considered to be a brain toxin. And what

I found was very interesting. The researchers didn't believe that

alcohol repaired the brain but the relaxation it brought about did.

The research was done on mice that were made slightly tipsy. Now I

can't believe they were made tipsy for hours and hours on end because

that would have been stressful and dehydrating, so it was probably

just a bit tipsy every now and again.

Now I find it very interesting how small amounts of relaxation could

have such a profound effect on brain cells. We in ACT are practicing

mindfulness and although the aim is not try to get relaxed as such,

but to be mindful, when we recover relaxation will naturally occur.

Also, many of us will go on to develop yogi type peacefulness through

meditation and this will bring further health to our minds and

bodies. I know my brain has been badly damaged by stress and

antidepressant drugs so I remain quite hopeful that I can recover. I

have been highly stressed for years.

And EPA – omega 3 – doesn't work so well when you are stressed

either, so I look forward to EPA really revamping my brain when I get

better. A big healthy brain means lots of receptors, high natural

levels of serotonin, and improved ability to remain less stressed and

happy.

I hope this helps some of you.

Kavy.
