Guest guest Posted February 20, 2006 Report Posted February 20, 2006 What likely is going on here is that some thoughts are going " under the radar, " unnoticed as thoughts and rather you are seeing the exercise through the lens of the thought. If you are " actively looking for thoughts, " then you are having a thought there (probably something like " I guess I'll look for some thoughts " ) that has gone unnoticed. The string of thoughts that you might be having that are going unnoticed might look something like " I'm not having any thoughts. Oh no, I should be having thoughts. I guess I'll wait until I have some thoughts... " etc. Its pretty rare for someone to have long periods during an exercise like this without thoughts, unless they have been dong it for fairly long periods of time. It cold be the case that you aren't having any thoughts, but more likely its that thoughts that present themselvs as about the exercise go unnoticed. -jl Just a quick observation: whilst doing the leaves on a stream exercise, I sometimes find myself not having any thoughts, and actively looking for some - the ones I find are usually distressing. anyone else?
