Guest guest Posted March 7, 2006 Report Posted March 7, 2006 There is no way to avoid spam like this without requiring a registration process. I forgot about that when I made this group open. We will have to do it or porn will keep showing up ... the spammers have automatic registration for open groups ... the software spiders do it. But if they have to anwer a question the software will not be able to So, sigh, I will put in a registration process #$%^^ & ^ & *@ - S C. I forgot about that when > I made this group open. as an aside, spam makes a good analogy for ACT. When i used to get spam, I'd get very angry, stop what I was doing and go to great lengths to report the spammer. The ironic thing was that in doing so I'd waste even more time and I'd end up having to look at the spam in detail and on more than one occassion, I ended up looking at the sites or products being advertised! In ACT terms, I used to buy into the message. Now, if something looks like spam, I'll scan it quickly and delete it if my original guess is confirmed. I notice it, do what I can and then get on with reading the rest of my emails. By accepting spam as an unavoidable downside of email, I've reduced it's ability to stress me out or take up more of my time than is necassary. that was years ago, but it's interesting to see how I've only just realised that I've previously solved at least one problem with an ACT approach to life. Guest guest Posted March 7, 2006 Report Posted March 7, 2006 When I saw that spam post I opened it and looked for the option to report it as inappropriate. I didn't find it. Whenever I post here I have to enter a text string but they are easy to read. I think character recognition software would be able to handle the character strings that Yahoo Groups employs. I don't know why I was a little surprised to see a post like that. It happens everywhere online. Bob > > There is no way to avoid spam like this without > requiring a registration process.
