Guest guest
Gidday All, It seems a few members also have osteo. I think the younger members should take note of this and take steps to avoid it. Osteo as we all know is quite a debilitating yet silent condition. It generally affects older people and women in particular. For us, with bronch it limits our physio and exercise. Important measures to keep our chests infection free and clear. I am a member of an osteo list and was surprised how many people also had chest conditions. In a way this makes sense. We have frequently been sick from young. When sick it is difficult to eat and exercise. We were oft underweight. We know what cortisone does and not all of us have been on it from young but what about the repeated anti-biotics? These oft affect our digestion. People with eating disorders and any chronic disease seem to develop osteo at a higher rate. Forteo is not available in Australia on the PBS it costs @ $895 for a month and the powers that be do not believe it is effective. Even for fossamax we need to have bone scans done to show the need. I always thought as I got older I would have more problems with bronch. Not so. It is the osteo that is limiting me more. I cannot lift even a lightweight, I cannot walk any distance(stress # in ankle and back) and I need a crutch to do that. My physio is limited to draining now for fear of further rib #s. My message to younger members of the group is to take steps NOW. Increase your calcium, don't miss exercise, limit your time on cortisone. You can have a fairly normal life and lifespan with bronch you do not want to be crippled but a condition you can avoid.
