Guest guest
Has anyone sustained a pulled chest muscle, back or hip injury while being treated with bronchiectasis? Monday I tripped on a tire bump at a grocery store and fell. I first thought that I broke my left wrist again. I broke it ten years ago when I tripped on a starting block at the school track. My neighbor, who is a nurse, looked at it and said that it did not appear to be broken but sprained. The next morning I called my primary care physician's nurse about my accident. She advised me to go to the emergency room for x-rays of my wrist since it was previously broken, and I have severe osteoporosis. The wrist is better now but yesterday my chest, back, hips and legs started aching. I have an appointment with my primary care doctor tomorrow morning for further evaluation regarding these problems. I called my pulmonary doctor's nurse and told her about my injury and how using the vest (inflatable vibrator) made my back and chest area hurt more intensely. Postural drainage is not so painful since I can lie on my new bed and perform that procedure. If anyone has a similar problem, I would appreciate hearing from you. My new primary care doctor does not know very much about bronchiectasis; however, if he thinks that I need further x-rays, I am sure that he will request them. Thanks, Norma
Guest guest
You poor thing Norma! You seem to be having a run of bad things happening to you. When I use the Vest I often feel a bit sore around the chest but it only lasts for a very short time. Sorry to hear about your wrist problem. A sprain can sometimes feel worse than a fracture. You get the swelling and pain and only an xray can distinguish one from the other. It is the same with the ankle. I am at highest risk for fractures according to the bone scan report. And yet I tripped once going down some steps and landed hard on the concrete walkway. Oh, No! I thought. Now I have broken my hip! Not so. I got up and walked away. Just a bit sore but no fracture. My doctor could hardly believe it. Clair in Ca.
Guest guest
, My first thought as I was going down was what am I going to break this time. In 1994 it was my left wrist walking on the track for my osteoporosis. The second time in 1997 it was my right shoulder. I tripped on the base of a coat rack in the hallway at my job at the state health department. Two of the ladies who shared the office next to the coat rack said that they also had been tripping on it. The bureau chief, who was a doctor and picked me up off the floor, said that it should not have been there and told those ladies to get it out of the hallway. The wrist feels fine now and is not nearly as blue as it was yesterday. Hopefully I will find out if there is any other damage to my back tomorrow. I think that I need to go back to Tai Chi class as it seemed to help with my balance. Previous to my fall I had gone to a specialty shoe store that sells orthopedic shoes. I was trying on some New Balance shoes that I always wear. The lady who was fitting my shoes said that I needed my orthodic on top of the insole and not under it. I told her that the man who had always helped me previously put it the other way and that it was more comfortable before. Then she preceded to lace my shoes a different way which made them fit more tightly around the ankle. Each time that I have fallen, it has been due to fatigue. That seems to be my worst problem. I am going to have to try harder not to do too many errands in one day. PACE YOURSELF NORMA. Norma in TX
