I wonder if everyone on this website is feeling as sad as I do at losing our dear friend Maggie ? She was such a great participant and always kept her sense of humour no matter how bad she felt. It just does not seem right that she is no longer with us. At only 28 years of age too. Way too young to die. Remember how she always added a prayer at the end of her e-mails for God to give us healthy lungs? That was so sweet.

I believe it was Craig who had the similar experience of a post- operative air leak from his lung. Am I right? I have never heard of that complication before. Has anyone else? When I had my lung surgery and had the lower left lobe and partial upper removed , I came through it without any complications what-so-ever. And that was thirty years ago. in Ca.

I feel the same way Barb. I know that the Cystic Fibrosis foundation has research going on to find a cure for Pseudomonas but it is going to take a few more years before the drug companies get going on the appropriate medication. in Ca.

I think that Maggie probably had coccidioimycosis even before she went into hospital for the surgery. Remember when she had the fever and was coughing all the time and was so sick? If I remember correctly Reagan said that they did a culture and found it after she went into hospital or was it after the surgery...I don't remember which? The treatment is antifungal therapy at the time of diagnosis with Fluconazole or Amphotericin B intravenously. I hope I am right but I believe it was Reagan who asked if any of us were familiar with Cocci ? Oh well...It is all water under the bridge now I guess. Just too bad that none of her doctors discovered it earlier. in Ca.

i couldn't agree more, barb.Barbara Erdmann wrote:

I, too, feel very sad about Maggie’s death and hope that Reagan and their sons have the strength to make it through their own special kind of sadness.

During the past week, I’ve been bombarded with phone calls asking for donations for cancer and diabetes research and even for holiday meals for the elderly. These are all very worthy charities, but just once I’d like someone to ask for a donation for bronchiectasis research.

Hi and All,

I am also finding it hard to come to terms with losing Maggie. There's not a day goes by that I don't think of Maggie, Reagan and their children. She was so young and had so much to live for. She was so positive and determined not to let the "bronch" rule her life. I remember when she first joined the group, she was so happy to have found her new "bronch" friends. No doubt she decided to have the operation in the hope that it would give her a better quality of life. It is just so sad how complications set in, and how quickly she relapsed after coming home. I keep thinking of all these things, and how delicate our lives really are when dealing with this condition. I'm sure we all felt like we knew Maggie, and now we are grieving the loss of a very special friend.

, I'm glad to hear that your operations were a success.

Take care and keep well.

Love Bunny
