Guest guest
Barb, Hello to you from Texas. I have had the vest just over one year for my bronchiectasis. I also have sinus problems as well as asthma. I am originally from south central Illinois but have lived in about every state in the Midwest. I now live near Austin, Texas. I am 69 years old and was diagnosed with bronchiectasis about three years ago after having about four years of treatment for allergies, asthma and sinus infections. After two bouts of walking pneumonia within six months I had a CT scan, and the diagnosis was made at that time. I have been hospitalized twice for exacerbations since March 2002. After my last exacerbation in July, my pulmonary doctor prescribed inhaled Tobramycin for the last two weeks of each month. I had two sinus surgeries within six months July 2000 and January 2001. The last one was to reduce the size of the middle turbinate. At the first surgery the culture taken during surgery showed pseudomonas colonization, and after the second surgery pseudomonas infection. I was originally treated with an inhaled steroid followed by Tobramycin for several months. Now my ENT treats me with a compounded nasal spray of Clindamycin and Tobramycin for flareups. You will learn much and get a lot of support from this wonderful group. Norma
Guest guest
Hi Barb, and welcome to our bronch. family. Sorry you have such a big bunch of problems all dropped on you....sounds like you have a good attitude ....that is key to handling a chronic disease pattern. Yes, I've heard of the vest and some people on this list are lucky enough to own one. I'm caregiver/spouse to who has ALpha 1 antitrypsin deficiency-genetic non smokers emphysema-and bronchiectasis. We don't have a plan here in Canada to supply the vest as they do in the states. It would be great for . He uses a flutter valve and does postural drainage twice a day. He is 60 years old and doing quite well in spite of several bad infections and fungi in his lungs. He's on long term Septra to treat Nocardia and is having a bronchoscopy in February. Feel free to ask as many questions as you like and someone will answer-guaranteed. I shall look forward to getting to know you. Let us know where you live, what family you have and if you work and what you do etc etc...we're like a regular family, we like to know about each other!! in Nanaimo,BC,Canadalighthouse898@... wrote: I just join the group.
