Hi All,

Im hoping for some words of encouragement. My son has been wearing his band/helmet for just over a month. He started wearing the band at 6 months for moderate plagio on the left side (asymmetric ears and slight forehead bossing). After 2 weeks of wearing the band we did notice improvement. However we havent noticed any change since that initial improvement and its getting me down a bit. Is this a common experience for some of you. Was it just that we caught a growth spurt and now we have to weight for another. Am I being way to impatient. Im worried that maybe the helmet isnt as well fitting now that his shape has changed or that he isnt going to improve as well as some others seem to have for the same amount of time. I suppose it is in the eye of the beholder but we seem to have plateaued.

HI Natasha:I'm sure your discouraged, I've been there. The important thing is that you've seen correction already, I'd imagine the lack of addt'l correction may indeed be from lack of growth spurts at this point. He is still quite young so he should be hitting some more growth spurts soon. How often do you visit your orthotist for check ups? I know you're in Australia and you travel for treatment right? If a couple more wks go by w/no improvement still, then I'd definitely address your concerns w/your orthotist.

Hang in there!!!

Hi Natasha,

I'm sory to hear about your concerns. What kind of band is

wearing? Is it a STARband or is it a passive helmet? Since you have

seen some improvement I would think that the band is probably

working, but maybe is between growth spurts. If it is a passive

helmet then it is possible that improvement might be a little slower

since progress is based on growth spurts only.

Does it seem to fit well? Not sliding around too much? When was your

last adjustment?

Sorry for the twenty questions! Hang in there - I'm sure everything

will be just fine.

I had the same experience with my daughter Jenna. She was 9 months when banded. After 2 weeks she had very noticable improvement. The next 2 weeks it seemed that the improvement wasn't as big. When we went back to the ortho she had still improved but hadn't grown as much as the 1st 2 weeks.

If you have concerns, I would contact your ortho. Are they far away?

Please keep us updated on .
