Guest guest
Hi Everyone, I have been asked to talk about Art Therapy with Geriatrics on a cable show. I was wondering if anyone had some 'fool proof projects' that the geriatric popluation could do at home on their own using minimal materials... Although I have some craft based ideas (making pins out of fimo, cards, memory boxes), I have only been working with this population for a few weeks and am not yet the expert that I would have liked to be for this type of public 'show and tell'. I was hoping that someone could recommend one or two fool proof craft projects that the geriatric population could do at home, using minimal materials and assistance. Any suggestions would be extremely helpful!!!! Thank you! Jodi Weingarten, ATR, LCAT
Guest guest
HI Jodi, How are you doing? The geriatric patients that I worked with were mostly in inpatient psych when I was working at a hospital, but I found that they often wanted to use their drawings as a way to look back on life or " life review. " Encouraging the making of self-generated books - they don't have to be fancy- containing pictures or personal photographs can promote the telling of stories which can jog memory and provide a sense of self-understanding and perhaps self-worth about their life.
