Miami-Dade County Public Schools

Employment Opportunities in School Art Therapy

The Miami-Dade County Public Schools (M-DCPS) Clinical Art Therapy Program is dedicated to helping at-risk students reach their maximum cognitive and emotional potential through the vehicle of creative expression. M-DCPS art therapists work as part of a treatment team. They consult, assess, design and implement individualized treatment plans to help students access their education.

M-DCPS art therapists are hired through the district office. They provide individual and small group sessions to students identified as severely emotionally disturbed or emotionally handicapped. Presently, over 3/4 of the M-DCPS clinical art therapists are board certified (ATR-BC).

The minimum requirements for M-DCPS clinical art therapists are:

· a masters' degree in art therapy

· eligibility for registration with the American Art Therapy Association and board certification from the American Art Therapy Association Credentialing Board

· teaching certification from Florida or a reciprocal state or the potential for teaching certification with additional course work.

There are presently openings for art therapists in M-DCPS. If you are interested in joining this dynamic group of art therapists in the M-DCPS, please send your resume, a letter of intent and three letters of reference to:

Dr. Jo Pfeiffer, ATR-BC, Art Therapy Chairperson, 1500 Biscayne Blvd. Suite 407-H, Miami-Dade County Public Schools, Miami, FL 33132 or email ljpfeiffer@... for further information.

job

Hello all, on this chilly January day.

I am seeking a part-time art therapy position, working with individuals or groups. I have a masters in Art Therapy, a BFA in Art Education, and have experience working with both adults and children as an educator and a clinician. I am a practicing artist as well, and recently submitted an illustrated chapter for Moon's upcoming book on Media & Materials in Art Therapy, which will be published by Routledge.

My most recent position was with Hospital Audiences, Inc, where I coordinated art-based workshops for adults with developmental and mental disabilities and adults with chronic mental illness. I am interested in continuing my own therapeutic education and practice, and want to begin to work towards my ATR.

Thanks very much in advance, and stay warm.

Sincerely,

Kate Lucas-Falk
